Meep is a four-letter word!!??

This is just ridiculous--

Although “meep” is a nonsense word signifying nothing, nonetheless it’s use has been banned by the principal of Danvers High School in Massachusetts, and "meeping" now means suspension.

Sounding very much like the Road Runner’s “beep beep” utterances signifying, “coming through!”, meep means nothing, and was created as a more or less explicative for bungling lab assistant Beaker of “The Muppet Show.”

Students thinking that using the word was a really neat way to interrupt class by “meeping” the teacher, was given birth through a plan initiated on Facebook.

Danvers High principal Thomas Murray sent parents an automated “meep” message advising parents that if their children used or displayed the word and continued to use it as a distraction technique they would be suspended from school.

The message warning was made necessary because students ignored his “reasonable request” to stop the meeping.

Danvers High sophomore Melanie Crane confirmed that “meep” has no specific English translation, and doesn't mean anything in particular.

I have an idea-- and a few email addresses. Actually, this is already being done: send a simple email to the school officials. One simple word in the subject line, and one simple word in the text-- MEEP.

The email addresses are publicly available on the school district's website. I will gladly post them here (coded, to prevent trackbacks) if anyone is interested in a mail raid. One mail per person, no need to spam them. That will take care of itself, given the volume of emails that are sure to arise out of this debacle.

Let's make a nice TK presence-- this is exactly the sort of silliness that deserves a good trolling. MEEP, mutherfuckers!!

Just a guess, but maybe it's not the word itself, but that the students were using it as a distraction during class, that made the principal throw the hammer down.

Yeah. Let's derail the lecture with a meaningless word. Good one, kids.

Incidentally, this may have an interesting side consequence: It may legitimize meep as a word, a slang term of derailment and/or frustration, depending how it winds up defined.

For those who want to meep your displeasure with this decision, here are the publicly-available addresses as listed on the school and district websites (coded here to prevent trackbacks):
