Magic's Paolo Banchero headlines squad for NBA's Rising Stars

Paolo Banchero's rookie season will include a trip to NBA All-Star Weekend. The Orlando Magic forward and No. 1 pick in last year's draft was announced Tuesday as a participant in this year's Rising Stars Game, to be held in Salt Lake City on Feb. 17, two nights before the All-Star Game. Banchero -- who leads all rookies with 20.7 points per game -- may still be selected as an All-Star reserve. Those players will be revealed Thursday.

Also picked for the game from this year's rookie class: Detroit's Jalen Duren and Jaden Ivey, Atlanta's AJ Griffin, Utah's Walker Kessier, Indiana's Bennedict Mathurin and Andrew Nembhard, Sacramento's Keegan Murray, Houston's Jabari Smith Jr., San Antonio's Jeremy Sochan and Oklahoma City's Jalen Williams.

The second-year players selected were New Orleans' Jose Alvarado and Trey Murphy III, Toronto's Scottie Barned, Oklahoma City's Josh Giddey, Houston's Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun, New York's Quentin Grimes, Denver's Bones Hyland, Cleveland's Evan Mobley and Orlando's Franz Wagner.

Sources: Pelicans Zion Williamson out through All-Star break
Williamson was voted in as a starter for the game despite having only played in 29 games this season. When Williamson has played, the Pelicans are 17-12, but without him, they are 12-15.

******
Williamson hurt his hamstring on Jan. 2 against the Philadelphia 76ers in the third quarter. He has not played since. In those 29 games, Williamson is averaging 26 points, seven rebounds and 4.6 assists while shooting 60.8% from the floor.

Giannis, Damian Lillard among All-Star Saturday participants

Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo is teaming up with his brothers again on All-Star Saturday. Portland's Damian Lillard is taking a third shot at the 3-point title, which Indiana's Buddy Hield will aim to win again, and Philadelphia's Mac McClung now can be a slam dunk champion at the NBA and high
school levels. The NBA released the full list of participants for All-Star Saturday's events in Salt Lake City: the skills competition, the 3-point contest and the dunk contest. It'll be a particularly busy weekend for 11 players who are now slotted to be in multiple events during the three days of action in Utah.
