They are talking about remaking the original "Hellraiser".

Why...why!?!?!? The first movie was just fine on it's own, the first sequel was good, the second kind of a guilty/flesh-porn pleasure, the rest are best forgotten...

But why re-make the ORIGINAL movie?

Hollywood has no shame. No courage. No creativity.

I will tear their souls apart!

The original was good, they need to stop. When they remake them they are not making them better, they make them worse. Look at what they did to the haunting. That was an awesome movie for it's time, then they had to fuck it up..

Next thing you know they'll be wanting to remake The Shining.

The original was reasonably close to the novella. That was part of the thing I liked about it. Any "re-imaging" is going to stray further from the story and that, along with the cowardice of Hollywood's corporate/production mechanism, is what really annoys me.

MamaKitty, your point about The Haunting is well made, I've never seen the remake (refuse to, in fact) but the original is my favorite horror movie of all time.

If they are going to go with "safe", make Hellboy III!

Man they fucked up the remake of the haunting. I thought it would be good with Liam in it, but they changed the whole story, they added a bunch of silly fucking monsters and bad fx. Where as the original, you didn't see what was coming after you. There was no bad FX, it was all a mind trip. The original to this day still causes nightmares as where I wanted to walk out of the theater of the remake and demand all the actors, directors and producers fucking hand them selves. I hated the remake. Fucking Cunts!

I tried to watch those but they are a bit gruesome for me.

Did they end the series? Why remake if the story can be continued instead?

Because Hollywood is run by chickenshit j00z, that's why. They don't give a shit about providing a good story if it means gambling with the investment of their budgets. They think (and unfortunately they've been right often enough to keep them thinking this) that an existing property with an existing fanbase means a guaranteed return on the film's budget.

They're terrified of trying anything new, and so they don't. As a consequence of that, they're rapidly diminishing the odds that the industry will even attract new talent going forward.

Saint, if you ever want to make enough money screenwriting to fix your teeth, yer gonna have to lay off the benevolent overlo--err, I mean Hollywood hebrew people. They take that shit personally.

As for Hollywood's lack of imagination: as a whole, the special effects industry has overtaken the entire moviemaking business at the expense of story. There are damn few good stories in movies today; it's all "fight scene, fight scene. love scene. giant robot. car chase. comedy relief scene. fight scene. villain exposition scene. save the girl scene. fight scene. roll credits. release video game."

It's great that special effects have finally caught up, more or less, to what moviemakers envision when they write these stories. Unfortunately the writing now has to catch up to the effects so that the movies will have some resonance again.

Dr. Paul Merchant: "And what do you have faith in?"

Pinhead: Nothing. "I am so exquisitely empty."

Ahem...hullo old friends! Anyhoo, just my two cents:
Everything that can be done, has been done. There is nothing left but for them to take the work of others and shit out something they can call their own. Anyone remember the original Halloween? I know I do. Anyone remember Zombie's remake of it? I remember that pile of shit too. A great director would take something that was total shit and remake it into what I'm sure the original creators thought it was. These guys nowadays take something that was once great and think they can just change the story and change fucking everything, slap their label on it and be the next big thing. It's ridiculous. I'm with the guy who said he'd steal it. All hail The Pirate Bay.
Oh, the one I'm waiting for?
The Star Wars remakes - they start filming in 2012 - the good news is, George Lucas is behind it. The bad news? It's a fucking remake of a series that's been mastered, re-mastered, re-re-mastered, re-released, re-special fx'd, re-released again in 20 different collector's editions. Even the man himself is out of ideas. He is milking the living shit out of that cow, and the odd thing is...I'd bet it's got plenty of milk to be had yet.

No, the shitty remakes are the ones that have a "nostalgia" hook. Star Trek, The A-Team, and so on. Predators? Not really all that bad. Star Trek? Totally assraped the entire core idea behind the original. The A-Team? Totally assraped the entire core idea behind the original.*

*Star Trek was originally geared toward creating the idea of a brighter future, not one where even "enlightened" species such as the Vulcans were snide, smarmy fuckin' bigots. The A-Team? The core idea was that these guys were off the goddamn grid, not fucking cartoons doing physically impossible shit with fucking tanks in front of hundreds of witnesses.)
