Now available on DVD or PSP?

Kitten, kitten, kitten...why don't you just ask the HB these questions? Why you gotta go outside the house? ;)

PSP is "Playstation Portable", it's a basically a portable version of the Playstation 2. It plays DVDs, but it's smaller, thus it needs smaller discs.

And yes, I did say "Thus".

Oddly, I knew it had something to do with Play Station. Be impressed HB, be impressed.

And thank you for explaining. :smooch:

^^You COULD have said, "Well, HB never emails me back, and I need a response before next Thursday!"

;)

Check your email!

UMD is the disc format(dvd), but sony created a new video format thats becoming pretty widespread; MPEG-4.

I've been renting new releases from say blockbuster and ripping them in both formats, DVD and MPEG4, which is 29fps and is really crystal clear because the picture is so small.

It's really awesome. You can buy or rent the stupid UMD mii disc, but the real action with that unit takes place with the memory chip. I have a 2gig a 1 gig and a half gig, and its the best movie player Ive ever used.

I've been tempted, sorely tempted, to pick up one of those things.
Thumbs up? Thumbs down? And I've also seen PSP "downloadables" out there -- any word on what sort of hard media (Minidisc? Some sort of DVD?) and burning software one would need in order to take advantage of these goodies?

My influence, without a doubt, as is what looks to be your new term of endearment for the lady. ;)

TQ, you MUST get one. I've had mine since summer, and it's the best fucking movie player that exists. small screen, LCD POIFECT. Games, music, it has bluetooth wireless and a browser, so you can go online anywhere Bluetooth is using it. It's just excellent.

I'll show you how to convert your dvds to PSP stick format if you get one. It's pretty easy although time consuming.

If you get one, make SURE you get a gig memstick with it, its about 120 now as an add on, but essential for movies.

Ah and software. First you need a dvd burner. Then you need this program from www.slysoft.com it's called "anydvd" it's a free thirty day download, and it costs 39 dollars after that, it's a key generator, and gives you one play without the protection, totally awesome and legal withing the copyright protection act, since your formatting for your psp personal viewing.

Then get an mpeg4 converter, I use "pspvideo9" it's totally free and works like a charm. The files come out in 150 meg blocks, and you just upload them to the special folders you make on your memstick. An average 4 gig movie converts down to 600 to 800 meg with this converter.

FUN! Don't ever buy a UMD, totally stupid, rip and burn :)

Do you need a special reader for Memory Sticks, or what? I've got a 9-in-1 reader on my XPS, but I don't know jack about Sony's proprietary media.

No, what you do is save the mpeg4's into a holding file on your hard drive. Then you hook the PSP up to your hard drive with a USB cable. Then you can read right into your memory stick using your desktop. It calls itself the G drive or something.

You have to create two files on your memory stick, one is called NVM1000 or something like that, and you make a subfolder within that called MOVIES which is where you store your files. That's the only way the PSP can read them properly.

Ok, after you get the psp plugged into USB mode, use your desktop to write a folder to the stick called MP_ROOT, then open that. Within that folder, make another folder called 100MNV01, and open that. That's where you'll copy your mpeg4 files, and the psp will read those as movies :)

Well, the memory stick has to be inserted in the psp for you to do anything with it.

I finally got a memory stick to use my brother's PSP while he was in Air Force Boot.

Not 3 days after I got the memory stick, he asked us to send it to him.

Fucker.
