RIP Karl 1991-2014
Where I head I do not know
Six miles hence a line is drawn
Snow falls upon my head and shirt
I wear not a jacket; necessity bid me
Stay and die
Leave and tempt fate
Five miles hence the line awaits
Down one snowcapped hill
Up another, then a turn
Chills rake my bones
Determination warms me
Driven by a foul gambit
Better the unknown
Four miles hence the line sits idle
Flat farmland on either side
Crops buried under two feet of snow
Shoes soaked to the core with melted ice
Snowflakes blowing in my eyes
Imperious, impervious
The devil is known
Three miles hence it calls to me
Placid domiciles on the left
Not the barest sign of life
Occasional cars pass by
I stick out my thumb, but done do slow
The Earth is whited out
If I fail, I will follow
Two miles hence I will be free
Baby trees line the path to the side of me
White farmland beyond
My feet carry me with renewed strength
Hope is in me, though that hope is in mystery
Perhaps yet my soul may be saved
From the forces of the depraved
One mile away I'll find my fate
Now a car comes from behind
I stick out my thumb to hitch a ride
It stops, but is my demise
A transport from the depths of Hell
My escape had gone unnoticed until this
And my fate was sealed, my soul forfeit
Lost at the very maws of purgatory
Six miles hence a line is drawn
Snow falls upon my head and shirt
I wear not a jacket; necessity bid me
Stay and die
Leave and tempt fate
Five miles hence the line awaits
Down one snowcapped hill
Up another, then a turn
Chills rake my bones
