This legisation has struck a death-blow to the Constitution and Bill of Rights: I don't know if this country will ever recover from what happened last week.
The oddest thing I've noticed in peoples' reactions to this is the sense they know that something is overwhelmingly wrong here, but are waiting for other people to fix it.
Please understand: there will be no 'saviour', no 'star-man' who's going to plop down from another dimension or universe to get us out of this mess: it must be We the People who have to come up to the plate, and demand that this legislation be rescinded.
Since Congress recently handed Bush the power to identify American citizens as "unlawful enemy combatants" and detain them indefinitely without charge, it's worth examining the administration's record of prisoner abuse as well as the building of stateside detention centers
