the new iphone hotness is pretty sweet, tho. voice command... leave your phone in your pocket but still do what you need to do, digital compass with ramifications much larger than just finding north (the phone can find it's orientation in 3D space), video capture, video editing on-device, video publishing, etc.

now all i have to do is find a way to get the cheaper pricing... thank gosh for the family plan.

I'm going to buy a 1st gen off Craigslist, so I can have my buddy in IT unlock it. Cheaper than cancelling my T-Mobile service, which would cost $200.

i got to deal with two "oops i upgraded" calls today - thank goodness the fix was released. BDM, if you have a dude in IT unlock it for you, make sure you stick around and watch so you can do it yourself if you need to. or get ready to call your IT guy when things go south.

Richard Belzer Accused of Apple Assault

By Sarah Crow Posted Mar 11th 2010 09:13AM

Richard Belzer, best known for his role as Sgt. John Munch on 'Law and Order: SVU,' found himself on the wrong side of the law this week after being accused of assaulting an Apple employee.

According to the Daily News, the 65-year-old actor reportedly entered the electronics retailer's store in New York's Upper West Side and approached 21-year-old Apple employee Milan Agnew. Agnew claims that Belzer proceeded to grab, shake and choke her, while yelling, "I need help!"

Agnew called police to report the assault, but when they arrived, Belzer brushed the incident off, saying that he was "just joking." Despite the alleged attack, Belzer was not charged with assault, angering members of Agnew's family.

"My granddaughter is petite, just 5-feet-2 and she's a dancer, so she doesn't have much body to her," the young woman's grandmother, Anita McKnight said. "Where does this man come off putting his hands on her?" Agnew told McKnight, "He didn't just touch me, he choked me and really scared me."

Jonathan Fox, who witnessed the attack, believes that Belzer received preferential treatment from the police because of his celebrity status, saying, "If it was one of us, we'd be locked up right now."

Witnesses say that following the alleged assault, Belzer acted as though nothing had happened, shaking hands and waving to fans.
Great. JUST GREAT. When I go to pick up my iPhone 3GS on Friday, the staff is going to be traumatized and talking to local press while I'm trying to get them to set up my phone...

*ROTFLMAO @ dumbfuck morons who purchase Apple computers, paying DOUBLE what a PC-buyer pays FOR THE SAME COMPONENTS*

Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Duh? The ONLY thing different between a MAC and a PC would be the OS. Morons.

Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Duh? The ONLY thing different between a MAC and a PC would be the OS. Morons.

And the OS is the killer difference, halfwit. You're paying double not for the same components but for the fact that the components are zealously tested with that OS to provide performance far superior to what any Windows-based system can produce with the same hardware. 1Gb of system memory on a Mac is worth 2Gb to 4Gb on a Windows system. Same goes for the processor, the storage, the graphics and nearly anything else. The only area I've found that was lacking on a Mac Mini (2nd Gen) was surround sound performance, which may have had more to do with the speaker system I tested it with than the sound system of the machine itself. Obviously, you know as much about Apple computers as you do about everything else, which comes out to approximately fuck-all.

the price of Macs vs PC built to comparable specs is actually quite close, but the total cost of ownership on Macs is much lower.

here, i'll but it in terms luci can understand:

mac: pay a lot now, but that's all you pay.
pc: pay a little now, pay a little later, pay a little more, pay a little more, pay a little more, pay a little more, etc.

I agree, although the downside of that is that Mac owners are generally less free to upgrade components on their own timetable should they choose. Part of the "pay more later" of PCs is that you can upgrade parts of it rather than toss the whole machine.

I'm a Mac fan, I'm just sayin'.

Oh, and I never picked up the iPhone. I decided to wait till I rearrange my bills so that I can afford the bump in my wireless bill. Plus I need to get new glasses and contacts, which wipes out what I was going to pay for the phone.

So, you are willing to pay far more for the OS itself? You are also suggesting that PC components are NOT tested with Windows, but MAC components are? Dumbass, they are the SAME components.

1 GB is 1GB is 1GB. That is all there is to it, dumbass. The processor, the storage, the graphics... ALL found on both systems. The ONLY difference is the OS. So, you are willing to pay HUNDREDS more for a simple fucking OS?

I had used MACs for most of my working life. I know from where I speak, dumbass. Mwaaaaaaaahhhh.

So, you are willing to pay far more for the OS itself?

Fucking A, I would. And so would you if you ACTUALLY knew the difference.

You are also suggesting that PC components are NOT tested with Windows, but MAC components are? Dumbass, they are the SAME components.

I'm suggesting that Apple has direct quality control over the components that their OS runs on, whereas Microsoft can't POSSIBLY exercise quality control over every single possible configuration Windows might be run on.

1 GB is 1GB is 1GB.

Tautology. 1Gb on a Mac is worth 2Gb to 4Gb on a Windows system.

So, you are willing to pay HUNDREDS more for a simple fucking OS?

When that "simple fucking OS" is between 200% and 400% more efficient, again, yes.

I had used MACs for most of my working life. I know from where I speak, dumbass. Mwaaaaaaaahhhh.

Obviously, either you lie or you were too dense to notice the difference in efficiency and performance. Probably both.

13" MacBook Pro: $1499.00
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz
250GB HD
4GB RAM @ 1067MHz
7 hour battery
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics

Dell Inspirion 13: $1651.00
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz
4GB RAM @ 1067MHz
500GB HD
5 hour battery
Intel GMA X3100

For the dell (which started at 1199.00) I had to add Wireless N, Bluetooth, a better battery, backup software (to compare to time machine), photoshop elements (iPhoto), and "solution station" to match applecare's complimentary support.

near identical components, apple wins on price. oh, and the operating system is faster, more stable, easier to use and work with, etc.

Yup -- and boosting the MBP 13" to a 500Gb hard drive still matches the Dell's starting price point, give or take a couple bucks, but with superior graphics hardware.

I have no use for a laptop with less than a 17" screen. Basically I need a portable tower in my line of work. So any laptop I buy is going to be in the $2000-2500 range.

And that's where the Dell becomes a better bargain for me. Large-screen Macs are ridiculously expensive, even strippos. That, plus all my clients use outdated versions of Office for Win, and need their files returned in the same condition.
