PS3 from Japan ok for US????

I just bought one on e-bay. I wasn't paying attention and just now realized that it's from Japan. Is that a problem for me in the US??
 
Well, before you do something drastic, you might want to research and see if there is a way to "chip" it or otherwise modify it to play US disks.
 
there are always mod chips you can get.

And check to see first if the PS3 is region free. I have a PSP from Japan, one of the first edition white ones, and It's region free.

I don't know about "always" a mod. Sony is notoriously adamant about not making mods or chips easy for their systems. I researched it quite a bit for my PS2, and was unable to find something that was guaranteed to work.

One thing's for sure, DS, you won't be able to use the online features of the PS3, because it won't be compatible with US phone systems.

Oh, one other thing, Sony also doesn't allow their games to be released to the secondary or "used" market in Japan. I remember I went to Akihabara (the so-called "electric town") in Tokyo, and I couldn't get any games for my PS2. My Brother-in-law said that Sony strictly prohibts games for their system being sold on the secondary market.

I love PS, and I'll eventually break down and buy a PS3....but I question their business ethics when it comes to giving options to the consumer.

What some advice?

Put it back up for sale on ebay for slightly more than what you paid for it.....QUICK!! :shock:
 
Fuck it. I told the guy I wasn't buyin git and he lowers the shipped from $118 to $48.

I told him I still don't want it.
