I am astounded by how I didn't see the beauty of the series finale before. I was alive when I saw Q, in the commercial adversitement, tell Jean-Luc:

Goodbye Jean-Luc. I'm gonna miss you. You had such potential. But then again, all good things must come to an end.

Only now, years later, can I look into their eyes and see the stakes. What a magnificent finale!

It's interesting, people always say TNG aged terribly. Circa 2006, I got into Stargate in syndication and LOVED it. One of the broadcast channels is running it heavy and THAT has aged terribly. It isn't horribly arc driven, but even so, having seen the episodes, it's...I dunno. The episodes just drag. OK, it's the one where O'Neil gets left behind and common law marries this chick. It's the one where Teal'c's son gets brainwashed. Blah.

Back on the subject, the last scene, where Picard shows up for the poker game is great. One of the best last lines and best series finales ever.

It's a great finale and would have made a far better movie than Generations. I don't think TNG's aged badly...well, except the first season. I'm going to rewatch it soon and I'm not looking forward to some of the season one episodes.
