I currently live in a state that does not allow concealed weapons permits or right to carry. However, the majority of US states do allow concealed weapons with minimal restrictions. When I showed the map below to a British friend of mine, he called it insane. If allowed in my state I would probably exercise the right, at least when traveling in dodgy areas. If the data is correct in the link below, right to carry decreses crime.
I generally think right to carry is probably a good idea with some safety and legal training that most states require.

As as additional point, businesses in right to carry states can restrict the right if they post a sign. Bars, banks, and that sort of thing.
