I don't get it though -- he's always had a goofy face. Eyes too close together, almost cross-eyed even. I think he's considered hot because he has good agents who got his name on the right lists in the media. That, and the abs. Frankly, he doesn't do it for me.

I think he comes off as hot because in his movies he is probably a little air brushed and in good lighting with professional makeup and wardrobe. He has some nice underpinnings with all those professionals to work with so he comes out looking better looking than ordinary. The characters I've seen him play have some sex appeal too in that they are generally witty and physical with a big slice of charming. You are right in that he is probably packaged just right. If he were just some ordinary guy on the street - like that picture up above of him without a shirt walking around in broad daylight - people might look at him and think he is a good looking guy but they probably wouldn't put him up as a sex symbol. Personally that is okay with me as I don't think it is necessary that we consider every human being we see as an object of sexual desire.

Yeah he worked hard on his physique - he acknowledged in a CBC interview that he was a bean pole before and had to bulk up for films.
Remember him on SNL? Very bright & funny in RL and that is what makes him hot IMHO.
