What is a blog, if it is not optimized to search engines? Merely setting up a blog is not enough. You need to know how to make it "search engine friendly", and if you can do that, you're a winner. If you can't, then you're not going to generate the revenue you thought you could. Your blog could have great content, but the fact is, not too many people will know about it, because it just doesn't show up in the first couple of pages on Google search!

So what should you do so as to change this and start raking in the dough? Here are some tips to get you started!

Tips You Can't Afford To Miss!

* First of all, change the Permalink structure which Wordpress offers. This is simply because the default Permalink structure is quite messy and unappealing, but you can customize it according to your requirements. Use a custom structure such as /%postname%/ and watch the traffic on your site go up!
* Another thing you can do is put in only excerpts of your many posts on your home page or tag pages. In fact, you can apply this rule to your category pages as well. That way, you'll also be steering clear of duplicate content on your various pages.
* To the best of your ability, optimize the internal linking structure of your blog. This has a double advantage - it is user friendly, so users tend to stay on your site and secondly, this gives a healthy boost to your search engine rankings.
* For every page, write unique titles and don't forget to put in little meta descriptions tags for each of those pages. In fact, install the All-In-One SEO pack, it saves you a lot of time and effort.
* Now, as we all know, sitemaps are very important, so use the Xml Sitemaps plug-in. The default settings do all the work for you. All you need to do is upload the plug-in. Here's a handy tip, submit this sitemap to Google!
* When you're done updating the content and posts on your blog, try to Ping sites. Use the writing tab to update your content. Then make a list of sites you want to Ping when you're done publishing new posts. This really helps!
* Last, but definitely not the least, do make sure that your code is indeed a valid one. You could try using the W3C Validator to double check!

alternatively you could try making your blog actually of some interest to real people instead of a cynical money making exercise to exploit webcrawlers
