I want to smell dark matter
I enjoyed the first one maybe this will be fun too.
Doesn't come out in theaters by me until tomorrow. Might wait to see it on TV anyway.Bump for anyone who's seen it but can't find this thread...I guess? There's absolutely zero buzz and it's tracking to flop but hey I started a thread nine months ago so I'll bump it!
i just watched the second trailer and it features lucy liu as a villain saying "we end this now".
Too late, I already watched it. Totally agree, the first one was better.I was feeling like I wanted to watch The Flash just to see what it's actually like, then I thought I should watch this first because it came out before it in the same universe, even though there's unlikely to be any connection. And I did like the first one so was kind of vaguely interested in seeing what happened to the characters. And I have no life.
Anyway, this isn't as good as the first one. It doesn't really do the things I liked about the first one as well as the first one did them. Zachary Levi was already slightly annoying in the first one (yeah I've said "first one" too many times, what are you going to do) but he's pretty off-putting at times here! He keeps pulling this same "SURPRISED" face that annoys me. IN THE FIRST ONE I could accept him acting a bit childish and over enthusiastic because Billy had only just become a super hero. But in this one Billy is just about to turn 18 (and the actor looks in his twenties) so it really makes no sense he acts like such a kid when Levi plays him. It doesn't help that we hardly see teen Billy at all so we don't get much of a sense what his character is supposed to be like.
The First One, while being suitable for children, had a nice bit of scariness to it with the villain and the scene where he slaughters the whole boardroom and his father. This one has one bit where a teach kills himself (which is promising!) but otherwsie feels a lot less likely to have young kids pissing themselves.
Helen Mirren was on complete auto-pilot and for some reason they made Lucy Liu (also on auto-pilot!) the main villain instead of her.
The kids other than Billy and Freddy just get a few token lines (if that) as an excuse for character work. The gay one says "I'm gay!" at a random point then might as well not be in the movie again. Mary has the exact same "wants to go to college and make friends" story as THE FIRST ONE but it isn't resolved at all.
Can't wait to see what that mid credit scene leads to!
Don't watch this.
