So...China DOES have an Aircraft Carrier

starguard

Unluckiest Charm in the Box
First they introduce a ballistic Missle that our own Govt outwardly admitted, can sink an American Supercarrier as far as 2000 miles out at sea (which totally shocked our Defense Dept and sent our commanders and politicians scrambling like hell for a counter weapon to stop it), Now they've come forward with a refurbished carrier of their own that they are training their fighter pilots to launch and land on

China has restored aircraft carrier ready
BEIJING – A leading defense analyst says China has fully restored an aircraft carrier from the Ukraine that it intends to use to train Chinese pilots.

Hong Kong-based Kanwa Asian Defense magazine says the restoration included all living and working compartments, the engines, navigation systems and power generating equipment.

The ship is China's first aircraft carrier. The U.S. Department of Defense expects it to be relaunched at any time for a pilot training platform.

China bought the mothballed carrier in 1998 and towed it to the northeastern port of Dalian for a complete refitting.

Kanwa said the complete restoration was intended to make the ship fully functional and be practice for building China's future homemade carriers.

They are catching up to us people.....FAST!!

You didn't really expect them to send us a Christmas card with "Kon Ni chi Wa, hisa shi bu ri. Your Debt Has Come Due. Please Pay Up". Did you?

They bought it as a "tourist attraction" a decade ago from the Ukraine. The ship was never commissioned by the USSR or it's decedents.

This is not a surprise, I've actually been following the restoration for some time. It's a carrier, a real, honest-to-god carrier, but it's not fully a CATOBAR carrier. No catapults, just a ski-jump (but she's MUCH bigger than the other "ski-jump" style STOBAR style carriers out there). She can't launch the "heavier" type aircraft like ours, the French, or the upcoming Queen Elizabeth class that the Brits are building.

The Indian Navy's carriers (and their navy in general) are still a lot more capable at this point. The PLAN will take some time to get up to speed. And the Japanese are building an aviation ship (STOVL carrier) but not calling it that for political reasons. Don't sweat it.

They have about 4 more on order from Russia too. They will be purchasing Canadian frigates too.

The ballistic missile which can sink supercarriers is a stolen Russian design. The Russians are still pissed about it.

*ROTFLMAO @ Americans fearing aged, decommissioned vessels from the former Soviet Union*

I wonder then how you Americans were shitting your pants when those vessels were brand-new vessels in the Soviet Navy.
