Sometimes it's the simple things.....

Comfort foods.

Need I say more? No? Hah, I will anyway.

There's a lot of reasons that something become a comfort food. These can include the food's familiarity, simplicity, and/or pleasant associations. Take this evening for example, it's late but I skipped dinner to get some work done.

So I get hungry a bit ago but I really don't want to tear the kitchen apart for something to eat. So I'm thinking. What can I make that's quick, easy, filling and tastes great?

A 2 egg chedder cheese omlet with fresh chives and slice of whole wheat toast. That was the usual breakfeast at my grandmothers when I was a kid. As it was 26 years ago that she died and I have very fond memories of the time I spent with my grandparents, it seemed fitting.

And for dessert, a warm dish of my moms applecrisp with some Half and Half. Again, reminders of when I was a kid and the house smelled of apple pies and applecrisp. It's also a rather chilly evening tonight and when we were children, we always had a dish of applecrisp and warm apple cider with a cinnamon stick before we went to bed. (I've tried for 10 years to make a better applecrisp then my moms. But I just can't do it. She always gets just the right amount of crispy little brown sugar chunks. Thank god she sent some over!)

So, list your favorite comfort foods and the reasons why.

Sarek, I love you. You are one of the most prolific posters here.

Does he know that you are a GUY who is using this dual? I would tell him. He is very sensitive about this sort of thing since having discovered his 'wife' was once a guy, and a very ugly one at that.
