I'm sad that Walt is leaving the show.. maybe they could get a similar looking(but younger) negro kid to play the part of Walt. His mental super powers were never explored.
 
I would hope we see flashbacks showing what Walk got up with the Others but as you say he's getting too old to play the character.
 
They could just do whatever they did to Macauly Culkin(how the fuck do you spell it?) so he always looks 10 years old.
