I want to smell dark matter
"Come in, come in, I have something to show you!" said the creepy guy with the glasses, Rick. Sophie was just supposed to be picking up the spare set of keys for work from him. She went into his apartment, reluctantly. It was full of things he'd stolen from work. Including a couch.
"How did you even get that up here?" she asked.
"Got some asylum seekers to carry it up the stairs," he said. "They I give them fifty pence each and told them to fuck off, haha, scrounging bastards!"
"Yeah...the keys?" she asked.
"I haven't shown you yet, my lustful mistress of the night!" he said.
"WHAT!?" she shouted, angry. He looked alarmed.
"Just some goth talk. You're a goth, aren't you?"
"Umm, not really," she said.
"But you've got black hair and you dress in black! Oh I can't keep up, haha, anyway, here it is...look under my curtain!" And he pulled a curtain off the table. There were three human brains in jars underneath. Sophie's jaw dropped. "Well?" he asked, smiling smugly.
"You're not supposed to take those out of storage!" she said.
"Oh, no harm will be done, don't worry!" She was thinking of reporting him to their enigmatic boss, Mister Aeon. But then again, the last person who had gotten in trouble with Mister Aeon had vanished without a trace, and as much as she disliked Rick she didn't want him to die...
"This is, this is wrong!" she said.
"I haven't shown you the best part yet, my love," he said. She backed towards the door. He was holding a microphone. He plugged it into a socket he must have fitted in one of the jars.
"HEEEEEEEEEEELP, HEEEEEEEEEEEELP!" came a voice from the microphone.
"That's...that's..."
"THEY'RE SOULS ARE TRAPPED INSIDE!" said Rick, gleefully rubbing his hands together. She tried the door, frantic. It was locked. "I think you'll find escape is impossible."
"Let me out of here, I'll tell Mister Aeon!" she screamed.
"Oh will you..." said Rick. Mister Aeon then walked out of his backroom, smoking a cigar!
"Hello Sophie," he said, calmly.
"What's going on!?" she asked.
"It's time we let you in on the secret, Sophie," he said. "Are you ready?"
"Are you?" asked Rick.
"AAAAAAAAAAAARE YOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUU!" asked one of the brains.
"Are you, Sophie? Are you ready?" asked Adam. She sat up with a start.
"No, the brains, no!" she said, clawing at thing air.
"Err, having a dream?" Adam asked.
"What?" She looked around. She was at her desk in her office. "Oh."
"Must have been a weird one!" he said.
"Yeah, yeah," she said, getting her coat. She was finished for a day and was going for a drink with Adam. She should feel good. She didn't. She was shaken, too shaken. She looked around nervously as they walked to the door. She saw Rick sitting at his desk, with three jars in front of him. They were empty...but he was stroking them.
"Have a nice night, Sophie," he said. "You BRAINiac!"
"How did you even get that up here?" she asked.
