You know, if there is any truth to the old saying that "A picture is worth a thousand words", that picture (to me) tells a story that will rival just about anything that we have avialiable to us today. I don't know if its due to the many romance novels I've read over the years that took place in a pre-columbus america, but when I look at that picture, it seems to reflect a time when morals meant more than money and spirituality meant more than greed or personal gain. Althought it may be hard for many to realise this, but there was a time once when there was more love in the world than hate and people actually relied more upon devine intervention than books and the media.
I have always felt (even when I was little) that the Native Americans were amongst the luckiest people in the world. Reason I say that is because if there is any truth to the bible sayings that "first on earth will be last in heaven and last on earth will be first in heaven," those guys are almost guaranteed a place there, because God only knows that they've already been through hell down here!
Here is a quote from a very well written autobiography called "Lakota Woman" that tells the story of a very brave woman named Mary Crow Dog that is really worth reading:
"Between 1870 and 1880 all Sioux were driven into reservations, fenced in and forced to give up everything that had given meaning to their life —their horses, their hunting, their arms, everything. But under the long snows of despair the little spark of our ancient beliefs and pride kept glowing, just barely sometimes, waiting for a warm wind to blow that spark into a flame again."
