Thanksgiving

I bought a nice 18 lber. The girls are going shopping tomorrow. They're making me some chocolate something or other that I can actually eat without dying after, supposedly.

Sounds delicious.

I've pretty much decided to take a drive out to Possum Kingdom Lake and stop by the Thanksgiving Buffet the Iron Skillet is having. As long as I get some turkey and pumpkin pie, I'll be doing mighty fine.

We are having smoked turkey, one of those spiral cut honey hams, collard greens, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy (duh), candied sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie and probably some type of coconut pie. I probably forgot something.

Asparagus slow cooked to tender with a little butter and slivered almonds goes great with honey baked ham.

OMG yes, and sweet potatoes. Baked in the oven until tender with butter and cinnamon.

and acorn squash hollowed out in the middle and filled with stuffing

and stuffing sandwiches with hot mustard and cranberries

edacious \i-DAY-shus\, adjective:
Given to eating; voracious; devouring.

Swallowed in the depths of edacious Time.
-- Thomas Carlyle

Something that... will dismay edacious lips.
-- "The late showman", Independent, August 21, 1999

Our... high-toned irritability, edacious appetites, and pampered constitutions.
-- Isaac Taylor, Natural History of Enthusiasm

Edacious is from Latin edax, edac-, gluttonous, consuming, from edo, edere, to eat.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are butter days! Not margarine. Not oleo. Not some sort of butter-like spread. Not substitutes in the form of flakes in a bottle or spray out of a can. None of that. Those days call for real artery hardening, pack a pound of fat on each hip, sweet and creamy butter.

One of those other standards - a salad of fruit, coconut, walnuts and whipped cream. Got to have that.
