The Batman

I'm intrigued by the new Batmobile. I like that this Batman may not automatically build a military grade arsenal from the get-go.

Batman is the World's Greatest Detective, but not necessarily a one-man Pentagon.

You know, DC Comics was hands-down my favorite over Marvel, growing up. I loved the Burton Batman films. And "Superman: The Movie." There are a pair of 1980s/1990s Batman T-shirts on my bed right now. It is a testament to their skill that Warner Brothers has made me absolutely hate Batman and the DC universe. I have no interest in this movie. But hey, (apparently) Black Commissioner Gordon. That or it's Al, the cop from "Die Hard", 30 years later.

They're reaching pretty hard to grab that Joaquin Phoenix Joker ring. Will they snag it? Or just sprain the audience (again)?

It looks pretty good. I do like that they are not going to try yet another incarnation of the Joker as the main villain and that it has an almost Crow-like aesthetic to it.

What I won't be doing either is underestimating Robert Pattinson in the role. I scoffed at Heath Ledger being cast as the Joker waaaaaaay back in 2006/7 on this very forum just because he'd mostly been in cutesy projects up to that point. We all know how that turned out.

Well there are two Barry's in the trailer so maybe he does, then comes back again to make sure he doesnt.

I figured out what bugs me about the trailer: It is relentlessly joyless. They keep missing that no one wants to be entertained by 2 hours of dark and misery. You need some humor to break it up. The Nolan Batman was dark, but it had bits to lighten the mood--the "Nice coat" bit, when Batman sees the bum wearing Bruce's old coat. The Burton Batman is dark but it has bits to lighten it up--Alfred. The reporters busting on Knox. You name it. You've got to have *something* that makes you smile. I'm not seeing anything in this. Just relentlessly depressing.

I imagine there will be some level of humour or fun in the movie and they just left it out the trailer because they wanted to get across the darkness angle.

Or not who knows.

Watching this in Scotland is going to be annoying because people are just going to be pointing at the screen saying "that's Glasgow!" every few minutes.
