The Doom movie

Yeah, pretty bad. It started out OK, too. I just didn't like the dungeon-crawling sequences and the way they were shot...

I just think if you're going to do this kind of movie, you haeve to shot the action well, these scenes were pretty shitty.

Yeah I gave that one a try too -- what the fuck dude?

I mean, we have a little swell of great sci-fi movies and then *poof* they disappear. So many great movies: Blade Runner, Aliens, Star Trek movies (especially ii and iv), Star Wars (iv-vi), etc. So what do we have recently that is any good? Serenity? Sucks, I'm sorry. It was OK but not great, it was so boring I didn't even watch the last half hour. Star Wars prequels, ick. Doom was horrific. So what movies in the sci-fi/horror genre were ANY good lately???

My answer is: Resident Evil (but NOT the sequel), Pitch Black, and (if you want to include the comedy ones) maybe Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Galaxyquest.

Everything else is bollocks IMFO!

I like the prequels and Serenity (but it is overrated) we need a METROID PRIME MOVIE STARRING JERI RYAN AS SAMUS.

Good idea, and good thread. But you know what happens?

The executives decide they want to target a more mainstream audience. In doing so, they water down the canon elements that attracts people to such films in the first place and alienate the genre fans. And because such fandom films are high risk, you can't expect big budget or A list actors in it, thus leaving the mainstream audience with a film as flat as week-old Pepsi.

That's why such films rarely, if ever, work out.

That is all true. Best to invent a new franchise with some cool "hook" to attract the masses (sassy robot ducks or something).

A recent Sci-fi movie that doesn't suck?

Hmm...

Um... Chronicals of Riddick? Well, the art direction was good, but it kinda dragged, and the conclusion was easy to spot.

How 'bout Cowboys in Space, I mean Serenity? Old premise with a good execution, but I thought it would have been not as good if I hadn't watched Firefly.

Um. Shit. There ain't nothin' out there, is there?
