The Happening or The Crapening (minor spoilers)

Let's fuck some shit up
OK, I'm not a big fan of M. Night Shyamalan, but this movie is going to make me really dislike him.

His one and only brilliant movie could be said to be The Sixth Sense. I have boycotted that movie because it really just looks lame. Everyone else has seen it and the twist ending has been spoiled more times than I have hair on my head. Another movie of his that has some clout is Signs. The only reason I watched it was because it was shot accross the street from where I worked at the time. The Village was a success at the box office, but I still consider it to be tripe.

Now, M. Night is releasing another one of his weird sci-fi thrillers, The Happening. It hasn't come out yet, but I've read reviews and the plot goes something like this:

There's a virus that is being released by plants that's causing most of the populations of the major cities of the NE USA to go nuts and start killing themselves and others. Mark Wahlberg who plays a science teacher figures all this out without any scientific evidence and tries to protect his family and others in a farmhouse in the PA countryside.

I've got news for M Night. This movie has been done before. It was done back in 1968 by a little-known director at the time, George A. Romero. It was called Night of the Living Dead.

So, if you're interested in Shyamalan's new movie, I suggest you first see how a real sci-fi thriller writer/director did it better.

Yeah, I'm buyin' that one. :hang:

M. Night Shammalammadingdong is a one trick pony who should be sent to the glue factory.

Yeah, he figures the whole thing out without having ANY physical evidence. He just has a revelation. What a load of crap.

LITW was 99.9% garbage, with 0.1% of unintentional virtue: Proof positive that M. Knight is a raving egomaniac, even by Hollywood-director standards. Remember what he cast himself as?

Generally, when a horror movie is introduced by its author's name, that basically means it's a shitty cash-cow attempt, and that a mediocre movie lies ahead. Had the fuckers been confident that their movie doesn't suck, they needn't remind everyone that the author of this sad excuse of a movie was (supposedly) written by Asshole McFamous.

I don't remember The Shining and Hellraiser being respectively marketed as Stephen King's the Shining and Clive Barker's Hellraiser.

The Shining was also a Kubrick film. They do advertise it from time to time as Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.

Though I get your point and I do agree. Shyamalan had one major success with Sixth Sense, and he's been trying to market himself as a sci-fi thriller genious. He's really no better than your average goth film student.

Eh, I liked it. Mother nature gets pissed and makes people kill themselves...FUN STUFF!

Lady In the Water and Signs were the only movies I didn't really like from Shyamalan.
