NEW AGE POSTING
PICKLEBALL

Pickleball is an indoor or outdoor racket/paddle sport where two players, or four players, hit a perforated hollow polymer ball over a 36-inch-high net using solid faced paddles. The two sides hit the ball back and forth over the net until one side commits a rule infraction. Pickleball was invented in 1965 as a children's back on Bainbridge Island, Washington, USA. In 2022, pickleball was adopted as the official state sport of Washington.

@CeeJay

Hot sun out, smoking some dooby on the porch with a cheap gin in a glass that needed a good wash 3 days ago. But you don't care - all you need is that harsh swill burning your gullet and to send you into a stupor. But what to do CeeJay? You're all out of ice and the hooch is running low. Ya gotta go down to the shop, but your t-shirt is stained and you're still a bit jittery from last night's bender.

You scratch your arse and smell your finger. You like smelling your butthole, but boy it's a real humdinger this time. You shot out two earlier in the day after a miller's instant coffee, but it's all such a haze - did you remember to wipe the second time? Oh yeah, now it comes back to you. You fell asleep on the fucking toilet. Shit, and you thought you'd already wiped. Aw man, fuck. FUCK. How did it come to this, you sack of shit. You just chop the gin and load up - fuck the ice. But the bottle is down to a 1/4. You thought the bottle would last the weekend, but you hit it extra hard last night. But who are you kidding, you always hit it extra hard. Those pricks at TrollKingdom - they fucking get you so worked up. It doesn't matter how much copypasta you do, it never fills the void. You know the truth when you stare at your shitty little room you and your antiquated PC sit in. Deep, deep down, you know if they could see you for the wretch you are, you'd lose - instantly. You know you're a loser. And, you know they know too. But you push it away. You can't change any of it - you're too weak.

What about the gin? Suns going down and you want to be fully buzzed before hitting up Venooker. You want to be passed out by midnight, so on ya bike. Aw but you hate the walk of shame. What about the butthole? Don't worry, you'll be in and out. Just keep your head down, don't make eye contact and hand over the credit card. Think of the relief when you walk back through front door - the clang of the bottles in your carry bag ringing in another night of reality-smashing oblivion.

April is National Pickleball Month!

History Of The Game

1965
After playing golf one Saturday during the summer, Joel Pritchard, congressman from Washington State and Bill Bell, successful businessman, returned to Pritchard’s home on Bainbridge Island, WA (near Seattle) to find their families sitting around with nothing to do. The property had an old badminton court so Pritchard and Bell looked for some badminton equipment and could not find a full set of rackets. They improvised and started playing with ping-pong paddles and a perforated plastic ball. At first they placed the net at badminton height of 60 inches and volleyed the ball over the net.As the weekend progressed, the players found that the ball bounced well on the asphalt surface and soon the net was lowered to 36 inches. The following weekend, Barney McCallum was introduced to the game at Pritchard’s home. Soon, the three men created rules, relying heavily on badminton. They kept in mind the original purpose, which was to provide a game that the whole family could play together.

Shut the fuck up CeeJay.

By the way, I play on a pro Pickleball team and make pretty good money at it.

I'll bet you've never played it.

Life Changes: Ignatowich Reflects on Pickleball Journey

James Ignatowich began his pickleball journey as a singles specialist. Coming from a strong junior and collegiate tennis background, he already possessed the racket skills and footwork that helped him excel rather quickly shortly after taking up the sport. It’s one of the reasons why his first PPA medal was a bronze in singles at the 2022 Atlanta Open. At the same tournament, however, there was another match—one that Ignatowich himself didn’t even play in, that has proven to be just as important for his career trajectory: the men’s doubles final between the duo of Riley Newman and Matt Wright and brothers Ben and Collin Johns. Newman and Wright emerged victorious in five games, and their aggressive style of play made quite an impression on Ignatowich, who was struggling to grasp men’s doubles at the time. “I watched that match and I was like, ‘Dang, I want to play doubles like that,’” he said. “And that’s really what made me start to like doubles.” A year and a half later, Ignatowich now plays that same brand of pickleball alongside Wright himself. ‘Big Papa Jimmy’ has also racked up 17 more PPA Tour medals and ranks inside the Top 10 in both men’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Pickle Ball - Rules Summary
The following is an abbreviated form of the rules to give a quick overview of how the game is played. If there is a conflict between this summary and the official rules, the official rules prevail.

Basic Rules
  • Pickleball is played either as doubles (two players per team) or singles; doubles is most common
  • The same size playing area and rules are used for both singles and doubles
The Serve
  • The server’s arm must be moving in an upward arc when the ball is struck.
  • Paddle contact with the ball must not be made above the waist level.
  • The head of the paddle must not be above the highest part of the wrist at contact.
  • A ‘drop serve’ is also permitted in which case none of the elements above apply.
  • At the time the ball is struck, the server’s feet may not touch the court or outside the imaginary extension of the sideline or centerline and at least one foot must be behind the baseline on the playing surface or the ground behind the baseline.
  • The serve is made diagonally crosscourt and must land within the confines of the opposite diagonal court.
  • Only one serve attempt is allowed per server.
the-pickleball-serve-rules

Serving Sequence
  • Both players on the serving doubles team have the opportunity to serve and score points until they commit a fault *(except for the first service sequence of each new game).
  • The first serve of each side-out is made from the right/even court.
  • If a point is scored, the server switches sides and the server initiates the next serve from the left/odd court.
  • As subsequent points are scored, the server continues switching back and forth until a fault is committed, and the first server loses the serve.
  • When the first server loses the serve the partner then serves from their correct side of the court (except for the first service sequence of the game*).
  • The second server continues serving until his team commits a fault and loses the serve to the opposing team.
  • Once the service goes to the opposition (at side out), the first serve is from the right/even court and both players on that team have the opportunity to serve and score points until their team commits two faults.
  • In singles the server serves from the right/even court when his or her score is even and from the left/odd when the score is odd.
the-pickleball-serve-return-rules

Scoring
  • Points are scored only by the serving team.
  • Games are normally played to 11 points, win by 2.
  • Tournament games may be to 15 or 21, win by 2.
  • When the serving team’s score is even (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10) the player who was the first server in the game for that team will be in the right/even court when serving or receiving; when odd (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) that player will be in the left/odd court when serving or receiving.
Two-Bounce Rule
  • When the ball is served, the receiving team must let it bounce before returning, and then the serving team must let it bounce before returning, thus two bounces.
  • After the ball has bounced once in each team’s court, both teams may either volley the ball (hit the ball before it bounces) or play it off a bounce (ground stroke).
  • The two-bounce rule eliminates the serve and volley advantage and extends rallies.
the-pickleball-two-bounce-rules

Line Calls
  • A ball contacting any part of any line, except the non-volley zone line on a serve, is considered “in.”
  • A serve contacting the non-volley zone line is short and a fault.

Non-Volley Zone
  • The non-volley zone is the court area within 7 feet on both sides of the net.
  • Volleying is prohibited within the non-volley zone. This rule prevents players from executing smashes from a position within the zone.
  • It is a fault if, when volleying a ball, the player steps on the non-volley zone, including the line and/or when the player’s momentum causes them or anything they are wearing or carrying to touch the non-volley zone including the associated lines.
  • It is a fault if, after volleying, a player is carried by momentum into or touches the non-volley zone, even if the volleyed ball is declared dead before this happens.
  • A player may legally be in the non-volley zone any time other than when volleying a ball.
  • The non-volley zone is commonly referred to as “the kitchen.”

Faults
  • A fault is any action that stops play because of a rule violation.
  • A fault by the receiving team results in a point for the serving team.
  • A fault by the serving team results in the server’s loss of serve or side out.

Determining Serving Team
  • Any fair method can be used to determine which player or team has first choice of side, service, or receive. (Example: coin flip)
