The Machinist: Strange but good

Big Dick McGee

If you don't know, now ya know
I caught "The Machinist" on DVD last week. Once you get past the "Oh my God, Christian Bale looks like a skeleton!!" factor, it's actually a quite good, quite engaging film.

For those not familiar with the film, Bale plays the titular role, a man named Travis who hasn't slept for nearly 1 year. Literally. He starts seeing visions, people who don't seem to be there speak to him, and his life starts to really take a nosedive after he is involved in an accident at work.

Great performance by Bale, and Jennifer Jason Leigh is equally as good as Travis' prostitute girlfriend. Well worth a look-see. You should at least add it to your Netflix queu. :)

It was a good movie. I just can not belive that Bale did that to him self for the part.. Skinny is one thing, that was something else..

I've got that in my queu allready. <g>

On a different note, of strange but good movies..."Audition." Holy fuck, was that awesome. Although I had one question about the ending that I didn't understand, but other than that, 9/10.

***SPOLIERS***

I really liked it too, but the ending was a let down. After all that mind-bending creepiness (the haunted house scene was absolutely brilliant) the revelation that all of his hallucinations were due to guilt over a hit and run seemed too prosaic. They should have capped it off with an orgy of gothic horror.
