The Matrix: Resurrections

I was going to start a thread for this but whisky already posted it in the movie trailers thread, so I'm splitting it (complains to Moderator Actions!)

I forgot Jessica Henwick's in it that's cool.

*Neo and Trinity step into the Nebuchadnezzar*

Neo: Trinity...we're home.

Trinity: *makes Wookiee noises*

Huh. Interesting. I didn't think there needed or could be a good sequel to "The Matrix." I really can't remember anything about the sequels. I fell asleep about halfway through one of them--and had no desire to see it again. But this has my attention.

I found The Matrix to be a fucking great, game-changing film which works perfectly as a standalone (like perfect movie Back To The Future) and is the only one of the three with Cypher in it and is obviously the best.
I enjoyed Reloaded too as it had great action scenes (maybe some went on too long), introduced some really interesting ideas and had Monica Bellucci's cleavage.
I did not like Revolutions as I felt it didn't follow up on the interesting ideas in a compelling way, was bored by the Zion/machine fight and the focus on the annoying THE KID character, and thought Trinity's death scene was horrible.

Sorry if any of these are the wrong opinion and I'm now exiled from FILM LAND.

^^Probably not. The bigger a franchise grows, and the longer it's left sitting between outings, the higher the probability that the next time it's picked up and dusted off, stuff is going to end up forgotten or discarded.

I am cautious about the trailer. I can see this being great or being a complete disaster. It could absolutely swing either way and the trailer whilst showing plenty of whizz-bang stuff isn't going to decide that. The predictable things people are whining about online: "They replaced Morpheus!" are obviously going to have in-universe explanations so I'm not concerned about any of that but there is definite trepidation. The first film is a masterpiece. Everything after that has not been a masterpiece.

As for Morpheus dying in the MMO. Eh, I know people consider it canon but I don't think it would stop them from bringing Fishburne back if they wanted to. He's gone on record saying: “I am not in the next Matrix movie, and you'd have to ask Lana Wachowski why, because I don't have an answer for that.”

The namecheck makes me feel there is genuine salt there and it's not just a giant RUSE and he really is in it but who knows. Maybe Weaving and Fishburne are both in the film and are just keeping it a surprise which would be genuinely dope. Not getting my hopes up though.

Also, why does Keanu have his John Wick look here? Those films have become so iconic around him that it seems a VERY odd choice to keep the look for this. It's a bit distracting tbh. I know it's just a beard and long hair but still. It's the John Wick look!

I think they were making this and John Wick 4 at the same time, and it's his real hair.

And we know how well digital moustache removal works out

The trailer strongly gives the impression that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's character is a younger version of Morpheus, lending to the theory that this is the latest iteration of the Matrix so they're starting over.

I really hope there isn't a scene where the actor Keanu Reeves wakes up in bed and says "woah, I just had a dream that the movie The Marix really happened!" and then Carrie Anne Moss comes to his door and he's like "Carrie Anne, what are you doing here?" and she says "actually my name is Trinity because the movie The Matrix was, in fact, real!"

Right now its Schrondengers film, both potentially good and potentially bad, I guess the worse case scenario would be somewhere between, if its just boring.

Interesting. The first trailer is much stronger than the new one, IMO. I was sold on the first trailer. The new one, I see your point on the Schroedinger's Film.

Saw it. Not as terrible as the other sequels, but certainly not necessary. Really doesn't add anything to the original movie.

They really should've done a "Ghostbusters" and mostly ignored the sequel(s). There's a lot of times where I'm like "What's happening? Who's this guy? Why don't I care?" To be fair, I was in a war in another country when the first sequel came out. I think I managed to catch it in theaters, but I was jetlagged--and it was terribly boring--so I fell asleep about halfway through. And I really remember less about the second sequel than I do the "Star Wars" prequels.
