The party's over

They left balloons behind. Ever seen a helium filled balloon three days after its intended purpose has expired? It ain't pretty.

I ran into someone I haven't seen in a long time. She said something and then sent me a poem she wrote about me. I've just realized a truth about her and it makes me very sad. She knew me in my years of suffering and thought my life was beautiful, romantic, and tragically wonderful. She has emulated and tried to recreate my circumstances for herself. She has not survived so well. My natural instinct is to put distance between us. Part of me is bleeding for her already. Perhaps I'll take her to Vegas and find her a couple of pool boys. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

I'm going to New York again this coming May. Last time my plans got thwarted and I wound up on a trip from where I wanted to be to a place across the state I didn't want to be. All because I was sharing a RENTAL car. Now my travel buddy is trying to talk me into flying into Philadelphia - where I want to go to see the Liberty Bell - then driving across the country to Seattle where she wants to buy a summer home and I can come and visit her :). I want to go up to New York, visit my niece, and go on a Hudson River tour and see all the little historical towns with their quilt museums and such. I also want to go to New York City and look at it - even if just from a distance. After that, if she wants, we can fly to the Seattle area and I'll drive her around there to her heart's content.

I am going to be firmly resolved to not let someone else talk me into doing something other than what I want to do this time. Lord only knows when I'll be that way again.

Is New York nice in May?

YES!

mostly been to NYC in the summer when school was out, but one year I went in late May and it was lovely because the museums and art galleries weren't full of tourists yet....great too because the flowering gardens are really on a roll by then but it has not become a hot muggy city yet.

The person I am playing Secret Santa to this year enjoys hiking and chocolate.

So, my gifts to her will be:

Monday - A Do-It-Yourself Walking Stick Kit - which will be a stick broken in four places, some screws, nails, and duct tape, and Instructions written in chicken scratch. And, a few pieces of cheap chocolate.

Tuesday - A Survival Kit for the Stuck Indoors - which will be a baggie of dirt, a baggie of leaves, a baggie of pebbles, and a baggie of air (packing thing). And, a few pieces of cheap chocolate.

Wednesday - An Adventure Kit - a kid's play set that includes a compass, binoculars, and canteen. And, a few pieces of cheap chocolate.

Thursday - Activity Guide - print out of our city's geocaching information and a map of the City. And, a few pieces of cheap chocolate.

Haven't decided on the gift for the big reveal luncheon on Friday. It needs to be something nice - maybe a chocolate fondue kit.

In our Secret Santa tradition, we have onery and nice categories and the mandate is to give cheap gifts. But, an expensive box of chocolates is not out of the question.

They make tiny boxes of 2 or 4 pieces of good chocolate - still sort of inexpensive rather than a full box assortment.

Ok. Party time is about to kick back into gear. Secret Santa reveal luncheon at noon. Swimming pool group Christmas Party at 1:30. Orphan party at noon tomorrow. Drummers party tomorrow night. Going to meditate with the Buddists Sunday morning then I'm going to work on my bedroom so I can install the new bed and electric fireplace. It is going back to winter weather here next week. Brrrr... below freezing!

Party Time is about to kick into gear here as well. Feast of the Immaculate Conception Vigil Mass at 6PM followed by desserts and the Winter Carnival in our local park. Saturday is Community Day with my Franciscan brethren. Business meeting, prayer service, socializing, and food.

A day doesn't seem very long for such a big decision. Then again, either you feel the calling or you don't.

I feel the calling, I think I've just been ignoring the call and/or putting it on hold the last 20+ years.

Five minutes until it is time to get ready for the next round of all day merriment. May your days be full of fun, excitement, frivolity, joy, etc.
