The Tin Man

Donovan

beer, I want beer
Anybody see this? It's a remake/ sci-fi update of Wizard of Oz with Zooey Deschanel (sp?) Alan Cummings and Richard Dreyfuss...

And it might be the most godawful piece of crap I've seen since Snakes on a Plane. Terrible acting, terrible plot devices, terrible "takes" on who and what the characters ought to be. I'd thought an update on the OZ concept would be kind of a neat idea, and we've seen it in comics and such before, but the plotting and writing of this turd was so completely miserable I couldn't even watch all the way through part one (It's a miniseries I guess).

Anybody else suffer thru this thing?

I enjoyed it for what it was, mildy amusing entertainment with Leoben in it. Same as the latest show they produced, Alice.

But Zooey Deschenal's acting was horrific.

I agree, I could have enjoyed it if they had beefed up Alan Cummings part and that of the side characters (Dreyfus was wasted as far as I could see, that guy's fantastic and they dumped him in a bit part. Could you see him as the angry tin man, instead of that other guy? Especially since the premise was that he'd been trapped for a very long time...but Zooey sucked so bad it hurt my eyes, I couldn't take it. And the wicked witch, whoever that was, was total Soap acting 101. Might as well have been watching Melrose Place...now with more scene-chewing fiber!

^The sister was actually on Beverly Hills 90210 (the original) so there's your soap opera acting.

I thought I knew all the original 90210 brats, but maybe I only knew the main ones: there was the bitchy brunette who got kicked off, her brother the sexually ambiguous bohunk, the bad-boy who was clearly ten years older than high school age, the nerd boy who overcompensated by being a wigger rap guy, the producers fugly daughter, the hawt blond who was slutty or prudish depending on the writer, the roidrage jock, and the librarian who also appeared to be in her mid forties.

Was that it? Maybe I'm thinking of power rangers...
