he lived all his life fooling himself into believing he was something more than what he was because it was the only thing keeping him sane and then right as he died he realised that this really was all he was all along there was no reward no hidden secret that would be revealed to him nothing at all just the thoughts in his head, the repetitive mind-numbing maddening thoughts but a funny thing happened in his last moments on Earth, he didn't go insane at all, in fact he felt more sane than he had in years, he felt young again, he felt free, free of ever having to think again and in his very final moment another thought appeared in his head and in that moment he chose to believe that he had thought it himself and it wasn't just his brain and that thought was the following: this isn't so bad
then he died

he liked her but she didn't even know he existed so he created an eleborate fantasy life inside his head where she did like him and they were somehow together, and then another girl really did like him but he wasn't interested because he didn't know what to do in real life and trying seemed an impossibily hard task so he let her go and she killed herself and he heard about it in the news and felt guilt briefly then panic but he convinced himself that it was obviously nothing to do with him and was back in fantasy world within minutes and he even went to the dead girl's funeral with his lover in the fantasy world and it was very sad but they both agreed a fitting ceremony

if you wanted to be something else you'd have to rewrite everything you are and then you woudln't be you would you or would you well I supposed from your point of view you would be because you don't notice changes do you I mean I'm a totally different person now than I was five years ago even though I'm essentiall in (exactly) the same position yet it I still think I'm the same person because there's been a continuity between that person and this one so I suppose having you mind completely rewritten woudln't be that bad would it
