I want to smell dark matter
He walked towards the mountain. It was miles away, he could tell that. It was so massive that it seemed closer. He kept his eyes on it as he went. More memories flashed in his brain. They were not human memories. He was becoming more squid than man. He hadn't been a squid of course, not really. It was eons ago, before squid, before any of the animals that now walked the Earth. He'd been a godking, ruling all the land. There had been others like him, but he'd killed them all. Drowned them in rivers of oil. It had been the way of things. He'd ruled from his mountain for ages. He'd fallen into a deep sleep, evetually, with all his enemies defeated. Then men had came. At first he'd ignored them. When they pestered him he had killed them. So many. He almost wiped out the entire human race, but then the sorcerers came. With their chanting. Unholy chanting. They had imprisoned him in his tomb, sunk it deep beneath the Earth. He'd been there forever, not truly dead but not alive either...until the human had come to him.

No! He was the human. He couldn't let go now. He remembered how it had been at first, the terrible squid mind taking over his. He had fought it. He had! The squidgod had wanted revenge on humanity, had wanted to kill them all. The reverse chanting had freed it from its tomb. It was ready to kill...but he had fought it. He'd enslaved humanity instead, except not really. He couldn't master them all, wars had broken out...the Earth had become what it now was. Lisa has somehow been spared because of his history with her, but now even she was a mindless one. He could stop it. If he could just return to his mountain, the source of all his power, he could reverse it, free humanity...well, free what was left of it. He didn't know how many had died. How many cities had burned. But he could save what remained, give them a chance anyway...even Lisa. Perhaps she would thank him.

And if he had to die for that to happen he was willing. The early hedonistic days of squidom, the orgies, the mindless slaughter (he remembered now killing fields of people for fun...he hadn't been himself) could never come again. Most of his humanity had been exstinguished in stopping the squidgod from killing everyone, he realised. That was why he'd lost control for a while, why he'd done terrible things...but now he was a man again, thanks to Lisa. Now he could end this sorry existence.

The mountain was still so far away. He stopped by the side of the road, not wanting to keep staring at it. He could feel the squidgod in him when he did. Could feel its evil...no. It wasn't evil, just different. Humans were like insects to it. The squidgod had never fought of them being truly alive. Why would it? They could die so easily, lived such short lives, when the squidgod and its kind had lived for millions of years. They were nothing, NOTHING. HE HAD BEEN RIGHT TO KILL THEM..no, the squidgod was taking over again...

"Master!" said a male supplicant who had approached as he sat by the road. "To look on your beauty is so..." He could take this right now. He stood up and snapped the man's neck.

Good, said the squidgod. Goooood. Didn't that feel right?

No, what had he done! He hadn't even been thinking of it, his mind was so far gone...a pathetic human brain being consumed by the squidgod. It would be so easy to give in, to let those final thoughts fade...he had to remember Lisa. He had to remember what was good about humanity. Didn't he?

"HAHAHAHA," he laughed to himself, rolling on the road. "HAHAHAHAHAHA!" He took the dead man's body and began pealing the skin from it with his talons. He would make a coat of the skin...

No. NO. He was human, he was strong, he...

He wrote "EMMA IS SEX" on the road in the man's blood.

Something snapped inside him. He would return to the mountain now, but not for what he'd originally intended.
