I want to smell dark matter
So small. So small and trapped. Where had he been? He couldn't remember. Part of him didn't want to remember. He had to remember that he had eyes to open. He was surrounded by wood. Was he standing up? Lying down? He wasn't aware of his body at first. Part of him wondered if he had a body. But of course he did. Where was he? Was he in a box? Buried alive? He couldn't move his arms and legs. There was no room. Yes he was in a coffin buried alive. How could that have happened? Didn't they check first? And why couldn't he remember anything? It was like his whole universe was this. Trapped in a box, with no memory, nowhere to go. He had been like this forever. No, there had to be more. He had to go deeper inside himself, something told him. This was just a layer...just a trap he'd fallen into. He had to fall asleep again. He'd wake up in the right place this time. He shut his eyes and thought of nothing. It was quite easy as there was nothing in his head anyway...
He was following her again. They were on a busy street but he kept her in his eyeline. Lisa. He remembered every detail of her back. He'd look at it a lot. He'd been stalking her for years. Wait, that didn't add up. Ah, who cared. Stalk stalk stalk. He watched her hair through the crowd. People tried to standing in his way but he pushed them away. He punched one. He kicked another. He threw one in front of a car and his body exloded on impact. He didn't care. He had to keep up with Lisa. Finally he reached her as she stood in the middle of a garden. She span around as he touched her shoulder. Her eyes were ink. What. What did that mean. She was holding something. A book. The Book of Lisa. He remembered that. He took it from her and opened it. He saw children being gunned down by soldiers on the pages. He slammed the book shut. Lisa was gone. The garden was dying. All the flowers were dead. How pathetic. He looked up into the sky. There were no stars. No stars...
He remembered who he was. He was the Squidinator. The Squidgod. The Master. He was the Earth. He was the stalker of Lisa. He'd had a human name, once, but he couldn't remember that. He was everything. And it was dark. He slowly opened his eyes. The Earth was decaying. He'd neglected it. The flowers really were all dead. He couldn't see any of his people. Maybe he had dissolved them all. He'd fallen aslpee and the Earth had slept with him. He didn't know where he was now. Lost in the universe. They'd been looking for the Starwhale but now they were just floating in space. No stars. He had to find a star. Had they floated out of the universe? He wanted to laugh but he couldn't remember how.
Chloe still sat by his arm, looking at him lovingly. He could bring her to life. Wake her up. Removed the oil from her eyes. He would have someone to stalk to.
But he felt too ashamed.
Finally he saw it. A distant point of life. He directed the Earth to move that way. Nothing happened at first. How many years had it been since the Earth had been a living organism under his command? It had forgotten how to be. Finally it stirred. Started moving again. The stars hadn't all gone out. He hadn't outlived in the universe. There was still light. There was still hope...
He remembered how to laugh.
