I want to smell dark matter
The Squidinator and Chloe walked in the world. It was a world he had never seen before. He was living in an alternative timeline now. In the original timeline the whole world had been converted to ink-eyed slaves by now. Meat for his war machine. He actually shuddered himself as he remembered it. All he'd done. And now it was all gone and in its place were people. Happy people. He watched children play. He watched lovers display their affection publically. He could pass for human, him and chloe, even though neither of them were. His squid parts didn't show on the outside anymore. But they were still there.

They walked for a long time, without a clear direction. They did not even talk to each other much. Finally they came to the ocean.

"Well, we walked to the ocean," said the Squidinator.

"Yes," said Chloe. She looked tired in her eyes.

"We could walk into the ocean," he said. "It would be something to do."

"No," she said, sitting down on the beach. He sat down beside her. Again they did not speak for a long time.

"What are you going to do now?" he asked at last.

"Live," she sighed.

"You wanted me to kill you before," he said. "Do you still...want that?"

"Oh, is that what you want to do?" she said.

"No, I was just..."

"You've done just about everything else to me, I suppose you'd like to experience killing me now. What is it, do I remind you of the old days too much? You want to reinvent yourself again, don't you? Become a hero. Become a new Jesus. You just have to erase the evidence of your old misdeeds first."

He hadn't really thought about this. He kind of found it tempting now. But no. "I was just trying to help."

"I know," she said, eventually. They watched the sun come up.

"Remember when I destroyed a spaceship by throwing the moon at it?" he asked. She laughed.

"I was a mind-controlled zombie at the time, but yes, vaguely."

"Remember when people used to bring me cheese?" The thought had just come to him randomly, as thoughts do.

"No, not at all," she said.

"I can't even remembered why," he sighed.

"Are we just going to be like this forever?" she asked. "Sitting here, sitting somewhere, rememebering old times, forgetting old times? Is that all there is?"

"If we walk the world for long enough, we'll come across the Time Demon eventually," he said. It made a kind of sense.

"He'll just disappear through time," she said.

"What if I made him an ink-slave? What if I saved all my ink for just him?"

"Yeah, fine, whatever. Want to have sex on the beach?"

He hadn't had sex for a very long time. It used to seem important. He used to build it up in his mind as something special. He'd desired Chloe back when he'd been more human. She did nothing for him now.

"No, and I don't think you do either," he said.

"No," she sighed. "No, I don't."

Ten minutes later they did it anyway.
