I want to smell dark matter
It would be foolish to assume that the year 2015 years after the death of the SquidGod was exactly the same as the year 2015 years after the birth of Christ. They weren't starting from the same place. Even though all technology had been rendered useless, all electronic data wiped and 90% of the world's population killed, there were still people with the knowledge of the old Earth after the SquidGod left. Remember, of course, that when the Squidinator awoke just over two hundred years later in Chloe's original time the world wasn't much different than it had been in his time. There were just less people. For a while. The population grew. By the second 2015 there were over twelve billion people living on Earth. Too many. It was time to head for the stars.
Space travel was more advanced than it had been in the first 2015. The manned mission to Mars had happened. It had been determined that Mars wasn't suitable for habitation, but other planets were, beyond the solar system. Advances in technology had found an Earth like planet 34 light years away. And so the frst sleeper ship was built, in 1899. It would travel at sub-light speeds, faster than any ship before but still not at the speed of light. That barrier had not been broken. But a few pioneers had volunteered for the journey. It would take them nearly three centuries to reach the planet, in their sleeper ship. Suspended anmination was perhaps the most impressive technological advancement this 2015 had that the old one had not. They would wake up on a new world...
The Starwhale could travel at the speed of light. And beyond. It was not space travel as the human mind could understand, of course. It bent space. It consumed space. It tunneled through space. It didn't often travel like this, but wanting to know what was happened on Earth had hurried it along. It could feel itself drawing closer to Earth. It's old home...
The Starwhale had been born in Earth's earliest ocean, much like the SquidGod. It had ruled above while the SquidGod ruled deep below. It had only been when the Starwhale had gone to land that the SquidGod had conquered the entire ocean. The Starwhale had let it, for it had seen the stars above and dreamed of travelling there. It had grown large on the land, it had grown larger in space. But it had always wanted, on some level, to be swimming the Earth's oceans again...
The Starwhale was amused when it came across the Earth's sleeper ship. What were the chances, it wondered. Of all the angles to approach the Earth, it had run into this vessel. It was so small. The Starwhale thought of destroying it, for it felt angry at the Earth for irrational reasons. He also felt that this vessel had not existed before the timelines had been changed. And yet the Starwhale also longed to have a vessel inside of it. It could still feel the memory of that ship that had once been stored in its belly. And so the Starwhale consumed the sleeper ship, swallowing it whole. It would never reach its destination. The sleepers would never wake. Then would lie inside the Starwhale forever.
After this brief halt the Starwhale continued its journey, soon entering the Earth's solar system. It could make the Earth out with its keen Starwhale eyes. It looked so small. And yet so blue.
