thing of the day (thing+591)

CaptainWacky

I want to smell dark matter
He wanted to smell her again.

There had been one day when he'd dared to smell her. When she'd stopped walking to look at her phone. He'd slowed down, at first. Didn't want to catch up with the girl he was stalking, after all! That would defeat the purpose of stalking. But eventually he'd thought why the fuck not. She was still standing there. Maybe someone would notice him walking slowly. So he walked on, like a normal person would. And smelled her hair as he walked by.

It smelled like heaven.

Or did he just imagine that was how it smelled? In truth it had hardly been a sniff at all, he'd passed so fast. But he'd built it up in his mind. The time he'd smelled her hair.

Maybe he'd touch her one day.

Of course it wasn't enough for him, just stalking this girl. He craved more, but he could not have it. He wasn't like other people. He couldn't talk like they could. Didn't like the same things they did. He eventually decided that was because he was smarter than all of them.

Sometimes he'd read SquidGod theories on the internet. There was a theory that once the SquidGod had been a man, but some ancient power had transformed him into a God. The man had been found worthy. He liked to imagine that there were still powers living under the ground and one would one day transform him.

But the days went by and the years went on and all he had in his life was stalking a girl whose hair he may or may not have sniffed once. What a life.

That was until something appeared in the sky.

He couldn't understand what he was looking at at first. It was so big. It had blocked out the sun for a moment and he had felt cold. He'd been following her, the girl with the hair, but he'd even forgotten her for a moment when everything had gone dark. Then he saw it, high above. A shape. Like...a whale. A whale in the sky.

A skywhale.

He saw that she was looking at it too. He found himself walking to her.

"What...what is it?" she said. She sounded scared. He felt like holding her.

"It's like...it's from days of old," he said. "Like the SquidGod." He knew this was right.

"It's getting bigger!" she said and she wasn't wrong. It was filling more of the sky. No, it was just getting closer to Earth. To them.

"TAKE ME," he suddenly shouted, madly. "TRANSFORM ME." Then she looked at him with terror. He'd scared her more than the skywhale had. He knew what he was then. A monster.

He finally touched her for the first time then. She struggled, she scramed, but there was no one around to hear her. He held her tight and smelled her hair again. It really did smell good. What would he do with her now? There was a shadow over both of them again. Maybe if...maybe if he did something her under the eye of the skywhale he would be transformed. If he sacrificed her...

She scartched his face hard as he was thinking. He loosed his grip for a moment and she struggled free. She started to run. He went to run after her, but fell. The ground was shaking. The Skywhale was effecting gravity.

"Transform me!" he said. Now the sky was only the skywhale. It was beautiful. More beautiful than she had been. This was what he was menat for, he realised. This was his becoing.

It flicked its tail and he knew no more.
