I want to smell dark matter
The Starbrood found life tough on the moon. There was nothing to eath. Their mother, the Starwhale, had fed them on the long voyage to Earth. They'd ate some of the humans that lived on her back. Not too many, of course, she did not want them all to die. But some. Yet now all those humans were dead and more importantly their mother was dead herself. They thought of eating her body to survive, but it had been pumped full of deadly ink. And they couldn't go to Earth because even from the moon they could see that the Squid God's mountain had grown high and he would kill them instantly.

They were doomed to die on the moon. Until they heard a voice.

"He cannot detect us...me," it said. "I'm...we're out of phase. No, only one of us now. Back together. And the universe didn't end!"

The Starbrood did not know who it was. They could not talk yet. They learned. Quickly. They were smart.

"Who...are you?" asked the one they had appointed as their leader.

"I'm your father," said the Time Demon. "And I love you kids! There was two of me, but now only one. We touched and it was magic. The Squidinator locked us away in a pocket dimension. But he thought we died there. We didn't. We can't come back, not fully. Even now part of us is in the Source. Yet there's enough here to help you. One last war."

"What...do you mean?" asked the leader.

"I'm talking about revenge, kids! I'm talking about killing the Squid God once and for all."

"He...too strong."

"And you're weak?"

"We...not weak."

"No! You're not! And you'll be stronger when I give you my Source power."

"What...you mean?"

"Like I said, kids, the Source is pulling me in. I'm out of phase now, but I'll fade away soon. Might as well go out with a bang. Might as well give you kids a legacy. All my power. In you. Grow big and strong, kids. But promise me one thing. Make the Squid God pay for all he's done."

"We...love you, father."

"Aww, don't make me cry."

And then there was blinding light. They were bathed in the light. For a moment they were the light.

When it was gone, they were stronger. Smarter. Some of them had wings. Others didn't need them. They weren't the Starbrood anymore. They were an army of Gods. And they were coming to Earth.

"For father!" cried the leader, now a gigantic lobster.
