I want to smell dark matter
"Can you feel it anymore clearly yet?" asked the robot. It was night now. The city was not as busy, but there were still a few weirdos about. A few people had recognised her, of course. Any time Madonna went outside someone would recognise her. She was always nice to them, but they were testing her patience sometimes now that she was looking for an invisible mountain. She could tell her robot lover had no tolerance of them. He seemed very different, outside in the real world. She'd only really kown him in bed before.
"No," she sighed. "I still have a vague sense of an invisible, impossible mountain...but I can't find it." A look of anger flashed on the robots face. How as that possible? He was a robot! He looked away from him for a moment and looked back with the usual impassive look on his face.
"That's okay," he said. "You are the Chosen One. That is why I was sent to you. In time you will find the mountain, as it is your destiny."
"The Chose One...me," she mused.
"Haven't you always known, deep down?" he asked.
"I guess I always thought I was special, yes. I needed that belief in order to become the star I am. But...this. It's come from nowhere."
"You are the world's greatest entertainer," said the robot. Was he just stroking her ego? She did like to hear it.
"Before you came along, I'd lost any sense of who I was," she admitted. "I've been re-inventing myself all my life. I created the Madonna character to become famous back in the eighties, and ever since then I've had to change with the times. I think for the most part I've managed it. But...it's taken its toll. Sometimes I don't even know who I am. Remember when I started talking with an English accent even though I'd only lived in England for a week at the time? I genuinely thought I had become English there. And now...there's been so many versions of me I don't know who I really am underneath it all. If I'm anyone. Has it all been lies? Then you came along and I didn't have to think about those things anymore. I could exist simply making love to your hot robot body every day."
"You were insatiable," he said.
"Hehe," she giggled. "Wait...I feel something. In that direction."
"The moment of vulnerability must have opened your mind!" said the robot. "Lead the way."
They walked through the streets of the city until they came to the river. She stopped. "I feel like we have to go through the river but..."
"Then walk on," said the robot.
"But I can't!" she said. "I'll get all wet!"
"Or will you..." said the robot. She didn't believe it but she started to walk right into the water...and it was is if it parted before her. Yet she could still see it, like the water was a hologram or something. She couldn't understand it. The robot followed her steps. She felt something in front of her. She gasped as she looked up.
The mountain rose impossibly high in the sky.
