He had laughed when he'd looked out the window and saw the first zombie. He wasn't sure why. Maybe he'd thought he was dreamed. Maybe he'd always expected this would happen. That they'd all die. The normal people. And he'd be fine because he never left his house. Well, fine until he ran out of food. What would he do then? Die, probably. He was fine with that. Most everyone else was already dead from the zombie virus.
He checked the message board he posted his Wank Log on. It was abandoned. It wasn't very active anyway, but no one was even browsing it but him. He'd saw some news reports before the tv had cut out. It seemed there were zombies all over the world. He made a final post on the board.
"If any of you are still alive, stay safe. I will wank again some day."
He wondered how long it would be until the power went out.
He watched the zombies from his bedroom window. He recognised most of them as people who had lived on his street. There was the teenage girl he used to think was hot. He'd felt guilty about that. Did he feel bad for her now she was dead? A bit, yeah. She'd been nice. He'd never talked to her or anything, but she'd seemed like a nice girl, ready to leave school, live a normal life. He felt his eyes get teary. She'd never have that now. He didn't feel bad for most of the rest of them but he felt bad for her. He watched her shuffling around, looking for someone to eat. She looked up at him, briefly. Did she recognise him? Was there any awareness? No. Of course not...
He lay in bed. He didn't sleep he just lay there. Strangely his anxiety was very low. It would usually keep him from relaxing. But knowing the world was over had soothed him.
He managed to get some sleep. The next morning he awoke to a knocking on his door. It wasn't the scraping he'd heard before, when the zombies had tried to get in. It was a knocking, like...a human knock. He looked out his window.
A man and woman were at the door. A living man and woman. They looked desperate. And a group of zombies were stumbling towards them.
What to do.
