So I have the news on and I hear the DEA seized a shipment of cocaine with an estimated street value of 40 million dollars.
40 million dollars. Hmm.
Other then the fact that the cocaine has yet to be converted to currency it has a very real value of 40 million bucks. A value that will not decrease but rather will increase in accordance with the increase in demand proportional the the decrease in supply yes? So we have a commodity, we have a customer base, we even have a fairly organized distribution system. Particularly for large quantities...
At this point I add into my calculations the fact that everyone including the DEA has their hat in their hand these days wondering where their financing is going to come from and I begin to doubt the final resting place of the cocaine/40million. Apparently moral fortitude is what causes the us gov to flush 40 million dollars down some toilet somewhere. Good thing I have their long history of morally astute decisions as example.
So I went looking, trying to figure out what sort of oversight might exist to ensure the contra ban is in fact being destroyed - Want to guess what I found? A whole lot of nothing. I did find an article from '09 assuring me that contractors who have non disclosure agreement with DEA do the dirty work. Apparently DEA can't secure the destruction process to the point that they're comfortable being publicly clear about what happens to the dope. The 40 million dollars worth of dope. So the have the tactical superiority to seize the dope but the don't have the muscle to publicly secure the destruction. So they can take it but they can't keep it. That doesn't make sense to me.
So my question for you, dear reader - Can anyone help me find any information about what exactly the DEA does with sizable seizures of valuable drugs? I already know what they do with the money they steal as law abiding [gangsters] citizens.
I'm sure they're acting in a morally astute, law abiding fashion. Above reproach and all.
