Dog Falls Onto Car On I-96; Driver Dies
Bizarre Accident Kills 81-Year-Old Man

An 81-year-old man died Wednesday following a bizarre weekend crash in which a dog fell onto his vehicle on Interstate 96.

Charles George Jetchick, of Livonia, was driving in a 1994 Ford Thunderbird on westbound I-96 at the Schoolcraft Road overpass at about 12:50 p.m. Saturday when the crash occurred, according to Michigan State Police. A large dog fell from the overpass through the windshield of the Thunderbird, police said.

Jetchick and his son, Bill, were transported to St. Mary's Hospital, where the 81-year-old man was admitted. Bill Jetchick was treated and released for minor injuries.

"I was kind of looking in the front seat to see if a piece of concrete had fallen, then I turned and looked in the back seat and there was a dog," said Bill Jetchick.

Charles Jetchick died a few days later, but as his four children now plan his funeral, they do have some answers.

The state police said the dog escaped from a nearby yard and apparently jumped over a fence to get out of the yard and jumped over the guard rail onto the freeway.

The dog, a Labrador retriever, was killed in the crash, according to police.

"It's bizarre, tragic circumstances," said Bill Jetchick.

Bill Jetchick said the incident was an accident, the dog's owners feel very bad about it and the Jetchick family does not feel any animosity toward the dog's owners.

Wow, that's fucking bizarre! I'm glad the man's son realizes it's an accident, and doesn't harbor any animosity towards the dog's owner.

If anything they should sue.
