Three jailed over shed prisoner

Originally the trio were charged with murder but the charge was dropped after experts ruled it was impossible to say whether Mr Davies' epilepsy could have contributed to his death.

So.. if being beaten and starved caused him to have an epileptic seizure then it's not murder?

Intention to murder is one thing. But as far as I can discern they didn't even get prosecuted on a manslaughter charge alongside the other obvious charges.

Surely false imprisonment and torture that happened to lead to a death - whether it be due to complications of a previous illness or not - is worthy of a manslaughter charge?

The fact remains that 10 years is a very short sentence when you consider other crimes that may end up landing you a far heftier sentence.

Money or drug based crimes for instance. (take your pick.)

Clear cut sadism of this degree should be dealt with much harsher sentences. As it stands these people will be out in their mid-thirties.

unfortunately, I suspect they'll be released far sooner than 10 years. probably do about half that.

It does seem like a light sentence in view of the reported circumstances surrounding the man's death. Considering the victim knew his captors, I wonder if they intended to ever let him go free. Also interesting that they had him captive six weeks before he died. Was no one looking for him? I don't know English law. Here, the family could bring the trio that caused his death to court for civil wrongs - as in the OJ Simpson murder trial. It would seem the court would take in to consideration Baggus' reaction to a car accident was to lock up and torture a human being. She sounds like she is a danger to the public at large as accidents happen every day. Her two friends, who assisted her in the captivity and torture, are equally dangerous to society at large. Personally, I think the three of them should be locked up permanently. However, I don't know what facts under English law have to be established to determine guilt for crimes of this nature or what the determining factors are in the punishment phase. 10 years might be the maximum the Court can give under the facts that were established.
