Today's Digital Peeve

[The Question]

Today:

Videos that have no reason to be videos. I'll just throw you an example:



See, there's No Good Fucking Reason for that to be a video. It's just an article with a soundtrack. I almost called it a slideshow, but the visual content is so minimal that it isn't even that, really.

But there seems to be a whole "genre" of clips like that on Youtube. Just text, a sparse dusting of icons, and obnoxious music. It's annoying as hell, and it needs to stop.

Dude. Completely agree with that. What happened to just posting articles with instructions instead? Not everything needs to be a goddamn video.

Don't even get me started on the Youtube rant. Clogged with advertising, "clever" youtubers who waste the first minute of their five minute video with a tedious animated logo and pleas to like and subscribe, taking forever to get to any actual content . . . ugh.

I have something else to add to the pile. Recipe websites. Ever read through something looking for just a general recipe about something and there's this whole wall of stupid text before they get to the point. It's almost as bad as YouTube.

Scott "Dilbert" Adams had a great blog that I loved to read. But a few years back he decided it would be even more awesome if, instead of writing it, he recorded himself talking about it. Dude, you've got some interesting ideas, but I read and think a lot faster than you can talk and I've got better things to do than sit and listen to someone jibber-jabber.
