You know, I dont mind the people that think the enterprise should have been built in space because they read it in a book years ago.

But the ones who keep insisting it could only be built in space because the enteprise couldnt possibly stand the strain of ONE FUCKING GRAVITY just make me want to crush their skulls.

It dosnt matter that when the enterprise goes to impulse speed it puts more strain on the ship than 1000G, or we actually saw the thing fly in earths atmosphere in an episode of the series, or the hundreds of unbeleithable things we saw it and the crew do over three years and six films, they just cant imagine it would be strong enough to lift from the surface of earth.

And before anyone tells me its just fiction, fuck off, I know it is, knowing its fiction is all the more reason to just accept it.

Rather than all these fucking morons who think because they took a few physics lessons when they were 12, they know everything about gravity, and intertia, and what things will be invented in the next 300 years.

And we have another 11 months of this shit till the film comes out

Dealing with Mincing Nerd Syndrome:

Typical Question: "That's INSANE!!! How does a [fictional sci-fi device] even work, anyway???

Standard Answer: "It works great. Thanks for asking."

That aside, I remember reading in some old Trek compendium that starships were built something like 3 times more massive than, say, an aircraft carrier for a variety of reasons. One assumes such a thing would be more cost-effective to build in space without having to drag all that mass up the gravity well, but then again if you have access to cheap & easy antigravity, maybe you save money in not having to outfit thousands of welders with spacesuits.

Come to think of it, a scene with the freshly-completed Enterprise NCC-1701 rising out of the ground and floating effortlessly into the sky would be quite the five-star awesome.
