UNCW's Tamer Thach and Northeastern's Tyler MacGregor were honored as Co-Players of the Year by the Coastal Athletic Association coaches the league announced on the eve of the 2024 CAA Championship Tournament at Brooks Field. Thach, who also earned First Team All-CAA honors, became the ninth Seahawk to be named Player of the Year and the second in three seasons, joining Brooks Baldwin in 2022. Since 2016, a UNCW player has earned the honor five times.
Thach exploded his sophomore season, setting UNCW single-season and career home run marks as well as the CAA single-season mark. Thach enters the conference tournament hitting .321 with 26 home runs and 70 runs batted in, also a career-high. In conference play, he is hitting .353 with 13 round trippers and 37 runs batted in. In two seasons, Thach has hit 41 home runs and knocked in 138 runs. Joining Thach on the First Team were red-shirt seniors Jac Croom and Trevor Marsh, red-shirt sophomore RJ Sales, and red-shirt junior Luke Craig.
Two-time reigning Coastal Athletic Association champion UNCW will face Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. on Friday in the second game of the NCAA Athens Regional it was announced on Monday. The Seahawks (39-19) join the Yellowjackets (31-23), host Georgia (39-15) and Patriot League champion Army (31-21) in the Athens Regional. Georgia is the top-seed in the regional and the seventh overall seed in the 64-team field. For UNCW, which will be the second seed, it will be its 12th regional appearance overall and the fourth in the last six tournaments. UNCW last played in Athens during the 2004 season and split a pair of midweek games. UNCW and Georgia Tech have split four games but haven't played since 1987. The Seahawks and Army have met once, coming during the 2013 Charlottesville Regional. UNCW knocked off the Black Knights, 9-5, in an elimination game.
UNCW women's basketball Head Coach Nicole Woods has elevated program assistant Madison Taylor to the Seahawks' Director of Operations role for the 2024-25 season. Taylor joined the women's basketball program in June 2023 and spent last season as a critical aid for Woods in her first season in the Port City. Taylor's primary duties as Director of Operations will include overseeing all operational logistics while executing a comprehensive academic and athletic plan to ensure student-athlete and program success.n As program assistant, Taylor assisted the Seahawks on multiple fronts including travel, team calendar, special events, social media, and community service. "Madison is the epitome of a servant leader. She wore many different hats last season and excelled in them all," said Woods. "She wasn't given this promotion, she earned it. We are grateful to still have her!"

UNCW wins the 2024 CAA Baseball Championship; will advance to NCAA Regionals
For the second straight year, UNCW Baseball was won the CAA Baseball Championship. Entering Sunday’s match up, UNCW has yet to lose a game in the CAA Tournament, needing one single victory over the College of Charleston to claim the title. The Seahawks would struggle in the first few innings with errors of the defensive end which allowed Charleston to take an 4-1 lead through three innings. However, the Seahawks would rally later in the game after making a pitching change and getting some helps from hitters Tanner Thach and Trevor Marsh. UNCW reclaimed the lead in the 7th inning 5-4, with pitcher Trace Baker giving six innings, allowing Luke Craig to come close out the game. UNCW will find out who and where they will play Monday afternoon with the tournament selection show airing on ESPN2 at 12PM.
