Vista Transformation Pack

The Question

Eternal
It's an interesting little package of visual styles/applications that make Windows XP look and act like any of three prototype versions of the next Windows, including the prototype known as Longhorn and both betas of Vista.

Have a look.

I've stripped every little beautification of my computer recently. I fucking hate widgets. Useless in the extreme and whip the shit out of your memory no matter how much you have.

Windowsblinds is an equally bad piece of software running in the background.

Keep it clean, keep it smooth; wait for the real Vista.

So, I looked at the screen shots...

What does it do?

It makes Windows XP look and act like Windows Vista. So far, there are a few annoyances, but it's fairly decent.

ANNOYANCES LISTED HERE!

Mainly the peripheral applications that come with the thing -- one is called LClock, which replaces the clock in the XP Start bar with one that's quite a bit more stylish. The annoyance with this is that the control panel applet for LClock doesn't seem to apply any user-input changes and instead takes its cues from whatever theme you're running instead, which means you HAVE to use the WindowBlinds themes supplied with the Transformation Pack to have it readable, and the Aero (that's the name for the Vista UI, apparently) skins the VTP comes with are good, but not as good as the ones I already had.

Another annoyance has to do with a peripheral app called Sidebar. In theory, it's a very nice application -- it's a little like Sysmetrix (which I explained to you about when you saw it last time you were over, BG) but emulates the side bar that will be in Vista. Unfortunately, the one that comes with the VTP is very, VERY sluggish when responding to input. Which is to say that 9 times out of 10, it doesn't. I'm hoping the next version of the VTP will remedy that.

My only other thought atm is to switch to the Vista 5308 beta, but there are 2 things standing in the way of that -- 1, I don't want to fuck around with trying to set up dual-boot yet again on a RAID, and (and because) 2 I don't want to format this damn computer when I dont have to YET AGAIN.
