Wacky Reviews: Things He's Watched On Netflix

I’m curious about Electric State. It’s based on the same material as Tales from the Loop, a rather pensive Amazon (I think) show from a few years ago. The movie seems to be a total tonal shift from the books, and fans are not happy.

The movie must be as bad as people are saying, because I watched the Trixie & Katya "I Like to Watch" episode for it, and they obviously were paid extra by Netflix to not trash it. In fact, there was a scripted intro where the queens interact with two of the robots that Netflix is actually using as an ad. So they were totally bought. Which troubles me, because if this becomes a trend and they aren't allowed to trash anything anymore, there's no point to the videos.

From the clips I saw, I had mixed reactions. It doesn't seem to know if it's a kids' movie or a straight action/fantasy movie. Also, 90% of everything you see on screen is CGI/greenscreen, so why not just make a full animated movie and save a lot of money? Netflix blew $300M on this flick, and they are facing bad reviews. I wonder how many dozens of shows they will cancel as a result...

There's actually lots of good stuff on Netflix, part of the problem is that there's so MUCH content it's hard to find/pick something if you haven't added it to your Watchlist or Liked it, which tilts their algorithm to find similar stuff...

Watched Adolescence over the weekend. It was amazing, tough, emotional, the kind of show you actually have to pay attention to the whole time you're watching. Still wondering how they did some shots, since every episode takes place in real time and is one long shot (in an HOUR episode!)... a sad, infuriating story with no easy answers that reflects the randomness of life today... excellent TV.

Just repeating what I’d heard. If you liked it I sure it’s good. I don’t really care if some people didn’t like it. I’ll watch and decide for myself.

And I only really have Netflix still because all the old Trek shows are on there. And the Studio Ghibli movies I keep meaning to catch up on. I’m rarely interested in new stuff they add.

Actually, did anyone watch Scavenger’s Reign? It’s a really well animated scifi series, following the survivors of a crashed spaceship on an alien planet. The world is full of weird and wonderful creatures, and it’s not an understatement to say the planet itself is like another character. The tone can be a little bleak, but it’s very imaginative, and the story really draws you in by the end.

I started it but I just got bored. Im actually really disappointed in a lot of animation these days. I think its in part because anime/adult animation was so rare in the 80's-90's only the REALLY good stuff made it. These days nearly anything ends up on and some of it is just poor.

That said, I fucking LOVED Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance. Im not normally a fan of series that take the "bad guys" point of view given the series follows Zeon soldiers... but holy fuck did they make the Gundam look absolutely fucking terrifying.

Halfway through Love, Death & Robots season 4 and not impressed...

4.1 - Literally, and I mean literally, just a Red Hot Chilli Peppers music video. Total waste of an "episode." Actually kind of insulting.
4.2 - Pretty sure they did an episode exactly like this in a previous season, same animation and everything, so another waste.
4.3 - Feels a bit familiar but at least it's a story. Too short though.
4.4 - Really cool looking animation here, as a bunch of super powered gang members fight a gang of giant babies. Fun fight sequence. Ends abruptly Actually worth watching!
4.5 - I like the idea of cats and robots teaming up to take over the world, but it's just "okay, I guess."

I watched a film about robots fighting people, Chris Pratt was meant to be the star, but he played second fiddle to a girl, and second fiddle is being generous, it was like he was at the back with a harmonica, and the harmonica was just a comb with some paper over it.

4.6 - Most of the episode is just Rhys Darby (in live action) going to meet an alien, all to set up a "haha, humans all died" punchline. Pointless.
4.7 - People fighting on the back of dinosaurs. Delivers on that front. Has "features the guest voice of MrBeast" in the description, as if that's a selling point.
4.8 - This one was good, no complaints.
4.9 - Utter shite, almost as bad as the Chilli Peppers one.
4.10 - Another episode with a cat as the main character, which seems like poor planning. It was fine.

Definitely the worst season!

It’s always been very hit and miss, and usually style over substance. That said, I was excited to see it pop up on Netflix only to instantly be let down reading the first episode’s description. I can’t stand the Chilli Peppers.

The electric state? I believe I mentioned it somewhere previously. I liked it.

I am watching Zero Day, but I need to find something else to watch. I might watch Sirens.

If you're a fan of the books it's a great adaptation, with enough new bits that there is still plenty more to see, the last joke of the series is worth watching for alone.

Love death and robots, I skipped to the next episode after less than a minute of the first episode, I liked the mini alien invasion, other than that most of them were bad, too many cats,, the smart appliances one maybe the worst thing I have ever seen.
