Luke Skywalker, hero of the OT, or was he?
What did Luke do in ANH? Lose R2 almost immediately, get over the deaths of his aunt and uncle in about two minutes, risk the lives of two smugglers and one of the last living Jedi because of a boner he had for his own sister, let almost all the rebel pilots die for a shot he probably didn't even make? Either Ben or the force made those torpedos go down that shaft, a shot he could only make with Hans help.
ESB he gets blind sided by a wampa, slows down an imperial attack with all the effectiveness of a cellophane S, (superman 2 reference), he abandons the rebels when they need him the most, then abandons Yoda to help his friends, which he dosnt, then needs rescuing by those friends he himself did not rescue.
ROTJ, ignores rebellion to save Han, puts everyone else in danger for a rescue he could easily do on his own. Takes so long to go back to Yoda that he is on his deathbed when he arrives, then uses his powers to bully a primative civilization into thinking his robot is a God. Then leaves the rebels again during their most important mission to hang out with his dad, the child murderer.
Nothing he does after that influences the coarse of events, Han brought the shield down, Lando destroyed the death star, Vader and the emperor would have died in the explosion no matter what he did.
If he had died with them on the death star he wouldn't have ended up creating Kylo Ren.
If anyone thinks the last Jedi ruined Luke, they just weren't paying attention.
