Love Child
One Love
As I looked through the different card selections, none of them fit. I know she is my mom, but suddenly that didn't matter anymore. All that meant was that she had birthed me. All of these cards thanked a mom for being there, doing this, being that. Is that what it boils down to? They are not even this person, they are this "mom" that is supposed to do all these things, be all these things and we thank them for that. We don't even just thank them for being a human being.
They have to be more. I'm not ready to talk about fathers yet, just mothers. The disappointments, the expectations that we have, the ownership of them. How we justify our later adult years of suffering. What has society done to this parent ship role and the role a family member is expected to play. Another person. etc etc etc I could go on and on.
However I do think there is a certain "responsibility" that comes with having a person come out of your body, men and women, but how much of that is put upon parents by society....
When did children and adults come to feel so entitled?
