Why is it illegal to kill midgets?

The Question

Eternal
The roommate's wife is a midget who plays music, tv shows, movies -- EVERYTHING -- at absolutely ear-splitting levels regardless of anything anyone else may be trying to accomplish -- work, sleep, whatever.

Why is it illegal for me to walk over and snap her fucking neck like a toothpick?

While it may be illegal to snap her neck like a toothpick, it is not illegal to make an extraordinary amount of noise when she is trying to work, sleep, whatever. You might also try turning on lights, turning off air conditioning or heat when she is sleeping; walking all around her and talking on your cell phone to someone else while she is trying to work or whatever. I've always liked the "there's a chocolate souffle in the oven and the vibrations from the excessive noise will make it fall" excuse. The direct approach - turning off the offending device and telling her it is too fucking loud - is always good.

Why do you have room mates? Or are you thier room mate? Maybe she doesn't like you. Maybe its time to find your own place?

Yes, I find that being passive-aggressive always solves the problem and doesn't escalate things.

Not turning it off, but perhaps a sit-down meeting of the roommates to hammer out a roommate contract? May sound silly, but in the long run it pays.

I think the people that behave in such a manner that it irritates me care little about my feelings period. They think their rights always, always, always usurp any rights I may have period because they have rights that always, always, always, always usurp mine.

By the time I become "passive-aggressive" I've already tried a number of other things to alleviate the problem.

I always find it amusing that someone will abuse my generosity and kindness, fail to respond to my requests and gentle urgings that they stop taking advantage of me, doggedly refuse to accept that things must change to make things more agreeable for both of us, scowl at me for my "passive-aggressive" behavior, then not understand why some stranger would come out of nowhere, tie them up, beat the shit out of them, and leave them naked and bloody in a hospital parking lot.
