Wolverine, Battle scars. Unfinished pencil drawing.

Morituri te salutant
Menty When you went and did a picture of my favorite x-man, I had to go and do one myself. I got a new scanner too, so I think I'm going to post more pictures.

This is the start of the picture. I used a bust of woverine for the stance, then added my own little bits to it. Now as anyone can notice, I suck drawing hands, so I try to stay away from them as much as humanly possible. I'm still going to add a bunch more to the picture, rework some stuff add in background and such.

Yes, I know I need to rework the arms. I'm a bit leery about posting this because personally I do think it looks like crap.

Great dynamic pose. It looks like he's rushing forward in a frenzy. Perhaps put a corridor in as the background, it will make the picture move and look more claustrophobic. Can't wait to see the finished piece.

Not bad. Try this....wolvie is feral and explosive. As gay as this sounds, have him squat more or spread his legs further apart to indicate he's either about to pounce or is in movement.

Or you can go the fore shortening route and bring either one of his legs or knees coming at us. Remember the more close up it is the bigger the object appears as well as thicker the line will be.

As the pose stands, it looks like he could be kicking down a door.

P.S. make his lats, or muscles underneath the arms wider. He's built like a tank.

Wolvie's my next tat when I can afford it....2008 at this rate.

Did a bit more, realigned some areas, added some battle wounds such as gunshot areas, a bit taken out of his right shoulder from a sword, tear marks from claws. Also added some shading. But this is it for me tonight. it's past midnight, I haven't slept for 2 days and I'm on the verge or tossing this sketchbook out a window.

His claws look wierd for a reason, this is post Magneto pulling the adamantium out of every pore in his body, so the claws are bony and jagged.

and for reference, he is not crying, it's blood.

Hands are a fucking pain in the ass!

Life drawing class, hell any drawing class that involved figure drawing of some sort, the teacher always made us draw ten hands, and ten different feet.

But they're right, reference and repetition will make it worth it in the end.

I've been meaning to do a hand study...other than w/ myself of course.

I don't have as much problem with hands as some people. I tend to get it right after a few goes. Feet are hard though.

Your Wolverine is suffering from "Liefeldittis" meaning the width of the wrist is the same as his hands, make hands bigger. Also, rotate the wrists and hands. I did some very crude corrections to your image to further illustrate some things that need correcting.

unfortunetly, this will remain unfinished for a few more days. Tomarrow I head back to college. Monday I should be able to get a new version of it in.

Sometimes, you gotta know when to let go and just start on a new one. I'm not telling you to give up by any means. If you still got engergy for this particular piece and can bring it to another level then go for it. But if it's time to get a fresh piece of paper and apply what you've learned from this one--well?
