Ye Gods, how is there not a thread on the live TV murder???

Police: Bryce Williams kills self after on-air slayings - CNN.com

I really try to spend time here, but honestly, it is frustrating. Everyone else is talking about this and here the best I can find is a stale thread imploring people to post pictures of hot girls with cats and St. Castle stagging around with a lampshade on his head, thinking he's doing high comedy. Oh, and the smilies suck.

That said, this really is a wonderful time to be alive if you like snuff films. When we were kids, you had to find a video store that had "Faces of Death." These days, BAM! You can find someone being beheaded or set on fire by a Muslim or shot by a disgruntled worker on live TV or any number of horrible deaths--all fed to the comfort of your bedroom by the fat wireless pipe of the WorldWideWeb.

No thread because it's just another racist who flipped out and murdered people to start a race war.

Simspons did it!
Um no, it was another mentally unbalanced person who was able to purchase guns without a background check, who decided that being fired for being crazy was reason enough to go shoot people.

NRA did it.

And to answer the original question, when people do start threads about breaking news at TK, it's usually done in Speak Freely or Armchair Philosophers.

His escalating racial anger was a by-product of his mental illness. He took it to levels of fantasy. He weren't hooked up right.

And he was able to buy a gun like it was socks or candy. No questions asked.

You need to takes weeks of lessons and a thorough written test and physical road test (and take a photo ID) to get a driver's license. But guns are on Aisle 9 at Walmart.

His escalating racial anger was the outlet for his crazy because he was a racist. Same as with bowl-cut boy whose name I forget. And please, spare me the antirational "if guns were illegal he would've just shook his fist like Snidely Whiplash" crap. When crazy people break laws against murdering people, where's the extra step that says they give a shit about laws that restrict what they do it with?

Thats an NRA slippery slope argument.

We will never get all the guns out of the hands of the "wrong" people. It doesn't mean we shouldn't try to make it a lot harder for them. No law is 100% effective. Doesn't mean you just surrender to the problem.

Pretty soon I'm probably going to move this up to Speak Freely, cuz I don't come to the MF to wallow in this real-life shit.

You can't make it harder for them, is the point. As stated, murder is already illegal. It didn't stop this asshole, did it? Would making murder twice as illegal have done any good? Legislation can't stop shit like this. It never has, and no amount of it ever will. Look at all the countries where gun legislation was the heaviest. Look at their death tolls. Let's see, now... Nazi Germany? Yep. USSR? Yup. Cuba? Yep. How'd that work out for the people who were disarmed? No mass killings in those countries? Oh, wait.

The problem here is not simply that a deranged racist had a gun. The problem is that nobody else did and he knew it. That is always going to be the problem. In countries where everyone is reduced to sheep, the wolves become unstoppable.

Oh, my glasses haven't kicked in. I thought you said St. Cassie. FUCK. OKAY ANYWAY.

I haven't actually paid a lot of attention to the live murder. I think my brain is so fucking tired of people murdering others that I am numb. I don't even want to read about the guy who did the murdering.

The answer is never "arm everyone". I refuse to live in a world where that is true. And nobody in America thought it was true before 9/11.

The people who talk the toughest about this issue are actually the ones who remained the most afraid/freaked out since 9/11. The "liberals" are the ones who realized that other countries already know what it's like to live under the threat of attack, and they didn't respond by becoming lawless, crazed animals with no sense of humanity or compassion left inside. The world progresses forward, whether we do or not.

Flanagan put down a deposit for two Glock 19 handguns in June and took possession of the weapons, after passing a Department of State Police background check, in July.

While it's a heck of a lot easier to buy a handgun in Virginia than say California where I live, it's not like he walked in to the gun store on Tuesday afternoon and picked out his pistol for the next morning's spur of the moment kill.

HTH

Volpone, I hope the discussion in this thread has adequately answered the question "how is there not a thread on the live TV murder???".

True, But in plenty of states he could have.

You are correct as well. My point is background checks and long, so-called "cooling-off" periods have little or no effect on dedicated murderers.

My guess is all current legal calisthenics don't even really slow down people who've seriously put mind to task.

On the upside, it throws a big ol' wrench in the works of any sort of insanity plea.

Malice aforethought.

Although it seems like it from where most of us decent folks are sitting, you don't have to be crazy to kill people - Only motivated.

I guess if we really wanted to make this thread fun we could discuss the death penalty.

And the priivatized prison system and how it's corrupting state governments and judges to meet bottom-line vacancy quotas so they don't lose money.

Wait...don't the same state governments and judges determine whether or not to issue permissions to purchase and own weapons?

You don't think they have a vested interest in a person, perhaps inclined to violence, being convicted of violent crime and contributing to the PIC as a long term resident do you??

Gotta mow some grass to grow a lawn?

Nah, that'd be crazy.

The thread is getting funner by the post though.

So -

Death penalty.

100% effective ought to be 100% accurate amirite?

Eggs is right. If we would only make it illegal to buy guns, then people wouldn't commit premeditated murder. I mean, murder is illegal and they go ahead and do that anyway, but I can see where this guy would be like: "Hmmm... I'm coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs and I'd really like to kill a couple people on life TV but gosh darn it, it is illegal to buy a gun, so I guess I'll just join a fantasy football league instead." Making it harder to get guns legally only stops law-abiding people, as this woman found out: 'No one helped her': NJ woman murdered by ex while awaiting gun permit | Fox News

You're placing emotional fantasism before reality. Your prerogative, just don't expect the real world to accommodate it. There is no God, and if there was, it sure as shit wouldn't be Walter Disney.
