Instead of changing my display name to sad song lyrics and have friends ask me "what's going on" I have to proactively *send* them sad lyrics. We've lost so much as a culture.

I used to talk to Lisa on it...she was quite nice to me and I felt bad about sometimes being in chatrooms while people were planning to burn down her house or whatever.

She was quite nice to me too. Certainly nicer than her official persona.

I tried to remember my ICQ details last year after coming across on of those 'member? threads where everyone celebrates how fucking long they've been sharing the same online haunt. Unfortunately the associated email was long dead so I had no way of recovering it. My number started with a 6, though.

Truth be told, my memory of those events are so vague I barely remember the broader strokes. I just remember names.

I'm pretty sure it started with some members being permabanned. It was a much smaller community back then; there was often lively discussion in the Briefing Room about what to do about this or that before the Admins made a move. I think the permabans were unilateral decisions and there had been no "trial" so to speak.

I absolutely would've been under the influence - no doubt why my memory is so sketchy on the specifics. I remember the outcomes well enough though. :D

I don't even know what happened to Lisa. I wonder if she returned as a dual?

I've always recommended squeezing the base on the broad stroke...but then that's just me channeling Masters and Johnson.
 
Hopefully she's not in a position of power, imaginary internet power or otherwise.
 
Also, MSN was pretty cool back in the day. Lost contact with a lot of friends when it went down.
